12 Celebrity White Women with Braids and Cornrows

Updated on July 29, 2016

Over the years many white Hollywood celebrity women have opted for the Jamaican/African-American style of cornrows or braids, especially during the summer or on vacations to the beach.

In these pictures of celebrity white women with braids and cornrows, like Lena Dunham, Gwen Stefani, Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Juliette Lewis, Kendra Wilkinson, Joss Stone, Kendall Jenner, and Fergie, you can see this style has definitely crossed cultures.

Incidentally, some Hollywood Caucasian men have opted for the cornrow look too.

Lena Dunham

Dunham opted to wear large cornrows while she was a guest on Jimmy Fallon. Although I usually do not like Dunham's specific sense of style and I don't think she wears clothes that flatter her that much, she definitely has a youthful fashion sense with her daring choices. And I actually love these cornrows on her.

I think if Dunham had worn a dress with a lower neckline, this hairstyle would have really given her look a lot of symmetry. If you check out the photo of her on the right, you can definitely see the cornrows are glamorous and suitable for her face.

3. Kristen Stewart

It is hard to believe she has been famous this long, but in this photo from 2000, Gwen Stefani opted for large cornrows all over her head. She also took the look off the charts by integrating two different hair colors into the style: hot pink and blonde.

5. Paris Hilton

Remember when Ms. Hiltion was always in the limelight? It seems like yesterday. I would have never guessed that socialite Paris Hilton would try this style, but she did back in 2003/2004. She actually looks very baby-faced and youthful here with her cornrows compared to her more dressed-up styles, but Paris has worn almost every hairdo imaginable.

Christina Aguilera with Long, Artificial Braids

Technically speaking, Christina is part Hispanic, and part white, so we counted her in this article. In this photo from the early 2000s, Christina Aguilera had artificial braids weaved into her roots. She went over the top by adding sequins and multi-colored braids in blue and purple. I love this look on her. It's the rebellious X-Tina we might never see again now that she has a family of her own.

7. Juliette Lewis

Juliette Lewis wore cornrows back in 1992 when she dated Brad Pitt. She was a bit ahead of the fashion curve because you didn't see a lot of white women wearing cornrows until the late 90s. (outside of the '70s and Caribbean vacations, that is).

While the style looked alright on her, it didn't suit her on this dressed up occasion. It fit right in, however, with her Bohemian style.

8. Kendra Wilkinson

What better way to keep your hair out of your face at the beach than with braids? Kendra wears cornrows through her hair and then lets them fall into long braids. She looked picture-perfect while posing for a surfing photo.

9. Joss Stone

Of all of these celebrity white women with cornrows, I like Joss Stone's style the most.

The look suits Joss Stone perfectly, especially because her cornrows sit along one side of her head and the other side has her hair angled over. The cornrow barrettes add a colorful, decorative touch.

Kendall Jenner with Cornrows (right)

Kendall Jenner looks feminine with a small area of her hair cornrowed. This is one of the most popular ways for teenage girls to wear cornrows -- integrating them into a look where most of their hair is long and straight or long and curly.

Jenner wore this look a few years back before she really burst onto the scene.

11. Fergie

Fergie is wearing her blonde hair in a very decorative cornrow maze with braids extending out from behind. Although Hollywood celebrities are known for wearing extensions and artificial hair, I am pretty sure this is Fergie's natural hair.

Notice how her gold jewelry coordinated with the light shining off of her blonde braids.

In pop culture, Bo Derek was perhaps the first Caucasian woman to adopt the style. She was once described as "the only white woman that should wear cornrows".
