Cocoa is Chocolate
What is Cocoa?
Cocoa beans, also known as Cocao beans, Cocoa or Cacoa are the fully dried and fatty seeds of the Theobroma Cacao, which produces cocoa butter and cocoa solids, the two main ingredients in chocolate.
Cocoa is native to the Americas and can be dated as far back as 1500 BC to its discovery in Central America by the Olmecs.
It has since travelled and is cultivated in The West Indies, The Philippines, West Africa and Asia. Top producers of the Cocoa bean globally are Ivory Coast, Ghana and Indonesia.
Interestingly, the Theobroma Cacao started off with the name cacao plant and was given a botanical name of Theobroma Cacao by a Swedish natural scientist which translates to “food of the gods”, quite appropriate don’t you think?
