Clueless Outfits: Clueless Movie Fashions for the Modern Girl

Updated on February 4, 2015

Kitty's favorite holiday is Halloween. She's been making her own costumes and studying Halloween as a holiday for over a decade.

The Girls of Clueless - Cher, Ti, and Dionne

Clueless Outfits?

What was your favorite 90s movie? I'll bet you can guess what mine was! Duh...it was Clueless and if you didn't know that, apparently you're Clueless.

Clueless was my favorite 90s movie and not because of the actors' outstanding talent or the incredibly well-written script...Clueless was my favorite 90s movie because of the Clueless outfits! I remember wanting to dress just like Cher, Ti, and Dionne. The Clueless movie fashions were bold, cute, and super trendy for the 90s, but is there a way to dress in Clueless outfits today in modern times? Like, Whatever! Of course there is...with a little creativity, sense of style, and inspiration from the Clueless girls themselves.

Take a trip on memory lane with me back to the 90s, when the movie Clueless was huge and teenagers everywhere were trying desperately to emulate those hot Clueless outfits.

Clueless Movie Fashions - Cher's Look #1

Clueless Outfits - Cher's Style

Out of all of the amazingly cute and trendy Clueless outfits, my favorite Clueless outfits were worn by none other than the beautiful Cher (played by Alicia Silverstone). Cute, classic, sexy, and trendy were Cher's middle names.

So how can we emulate Cher's Clueless outfits from the 90s for a more modern look? Like, as if! It's easy! Try this blazer, mini-skirt ensemble for one classic, sexy look.

This Clueless outfit can be found on Amazon and many other websites, simply by being patient and having a little time to scour through the clothing items for sale. Here's what you'll need to find to complete this Clueless outfit:

  • a long-sleeved dark blue or black blazer
  • a button-down white cotton shirt
  • an argyle or plaid mini-skirt
  • knee-high white socks
  • silver mary-janes

Lucky for you, I went ahead and found this Clueless outfit on Amazon for you. Add a fuzzy pen, oversized googly rings for your fingers, and a fuzzy purse and VOILA..you'll have yourself an adorable, trendy Clueless outfit for modern day.

Dionne's Clueless Outfits style

Clueless Outfits - Dionne's Style

Dionne was Cher's best friend in the movie Clueless, and who better to be Cher's best friend than the sassy, strong Dionne? Her style was fierce and so was her attitude. What lady wouldn't want to emulate that type of woman?

If you're looking to get that 90's Clueless movie fashion style, try to imitate Dionne's style...but make it your own. As whacky and 90's style as Dionne's 90s Clueless outfits were, you can update them and make them worthy of a modern day fashion magazine.

For this Clueless movie fashion look, I skipped the orange outfit with whacky mad hatter hat and went for the more understated, sexy velvet maroon dress. This Clueless outfit was one of my absolute favorites! Though it might not be as easy to find...let's see what we can come up with for this Clueless outfit.

Creating Your Own Clueless Style

If neither of these Clueless outfits fit your modern day style, try creating your own Clueless outfits style by merely getting inspired, duh! Watch the movie a few times, or simply look at pictures of the Clueless movie fashions to draw inspiration for your own modern girl's Clueless fashion style.

Just because the Clueless outfits were totally 90s style, doesn't mean some of the pieces can't look modern and fashionable. Try a really cute sweater vest with a white poplin shirt underneath and a knee-length pencil skirt to go with it. Fuzzy pens are always a cute accessory for either a student or career professional. Go with an understated look and dress it up with bright and bold Clueless style accessories, such as brightly colored knee-high socks or a furry zebra-print purse. Try out large over-sized rings for your fingers, just like the girls of Clueless wore. Headbands never go out of style, they wore them with their Clueless movie fashions, so you can wear them, too.

So, like, don't be a Loser and get inspired to wear Clueless outfits for the 21st century!

So many trends originate this way, through a fun, fashion- forward flick like Clueless! Each decade seems to have its icons that everyone wanted to emulate and then if you live long enough the trend comes back in vogue again - so save those plaid mini skirts girls! Great job Kitty, as usual- you are becoming our own HP Fashion Fanatic! Up, useful awesome!

I remember they wore a lot of cute, short plaid skirts in that movie. I was all about wearing short plaid skirts during that time period. I am not so sure I could pull off that look now. Whatever! As if!

Hehehe... this is such a cute hub. Their outfits are still cute even if those giant cell phones they are holding aren't. Voted up!
