I love coconut oil! Ever since it came into my life, my skin is so much softer and less sunburned. I use coconut oil pretty much for everything: cooking, beauty, sunscreen, etc…

The beauty of this oil is that it is very versatile, tastes great, and smells even better. Let me tell you the ways in which I use it.

Coconut oil as Sunscreen

This one came as a surprise. Because of my job, I spend a lot of time out in the sun a lot. The problem is that my skin is very light and burns easily. Some of my sunburns can even turn into blisters.

I started using coconut oil as an after shower moisturizer. As soon as I get out of the shower, while my skin still has some drop of water on it, I apply coconut oil to my body.

One day, I forgot to apply the customary sunblock and went to work. When I came home I noticed that, even though it had been a very hot and sunny day, my skin hadn’t burned. I was in shock! For a second I thought I had developed superpowers and that my skin was now bulletproof. But then I remembered the coconut oil. Although I was a bit disappointed because I didn’t have impervious skin, I was happy to find out that probably coconut oil could replace my chemical-filled sunblock.

The next day I only used coconut oil and did away with the sunblock, just to prove my hypothesis. Same awesome results! My skin didn’t burn and it didn’t absorb bad chemicals either. Needless to say, coconut oil is now my favorite sunscreen.

Also, after my exhaustive research in Google (I spent a whole 5 minutes researching it), I found out that coconut oil also protects skin from free radicals.

Coconut oil as Face and Body Moisturizer

I use coconut oil on my face and I love it. Some of my friends were reluctant to try it on their face for fear of breakouts.

Word of caution: you may breakout the first few times you use coconut oil. In my experience, I broke out for about 2 weeks and then the pimples disappeared. I am not a doctor, but my theory is that the oil brought out all the infections, got rid of them, and now keeps my face clean.

When you apply it to your face, don’t use too much. I like to apply it when my face is still a bit wet, since this helps the oil spread out better.

You can apply it before putting on foundation (although some do find that their skin will be greasy throughout the day), or just apply it at night and let your face absorb the awesome benefits of coconut oil while you sleep.

Nothing will leave you skin as soft as coconut oil does. I’m serious. My skin feels baby soft ever since I’ve been using coconut oil. Give it a try to find out for yourself.

I recently found another way to make your skin super healthy and smooth by using coconut oil and another ingredient: Shea butter. Click here for the homemade recipe for a facial moisturizer.

Coconut oil as a cleanser and make up remover

Yes, coconut oil is this awesome! I even remove my eye make up and foundation with it!

I wet my face and apply coconut oil while gently massaging my face with my fingertips. I then take a cotton ball, and use to remove the oil from my face. It’s that simple!

However, if you use heavy make up, you might need to use conventional make up removers. Or use glycerin soap, which is also wonderful!!

Coconut oil for Lips

I’ve noticed that many of the more expensive lipsticks and lip balms always include coconut oil. I’ve saved a lot of money going directly to the source of beauty and applying coconut oil directly on my lips, without using any of the harsh chemicals that some brands include.

Coconut oil for Dandruff

When coconut oil is applied to the scalp on a regular basis, it removes your dandruff. It is recommended to apply coconut oil to your hair and leave it on for at least an hour. I like to apply it before I go to bed, and leave it all night long. Of course, you may need to sleep with a shower cap on to prevent the oil from soaking into your pillow.

Since coconut oil has potent antifungal properties (that’s why it gets rid of your dandruff), it can also be used to treat athlete’s foot and other common skin problems.

Coconut oil as Hair Treatment

Coconut oil also makes you hair thicker and healthier. I’ve noticed that ever since I started using it on a regular basis (at least once a week), my hair actually stays in place and I have fewer frizzes.

There are a lot more creative ways to use coconut oil. I haven’t tried all of them, but I don’t doubt I will. Some people even use it as deodorant and toothpaste!

Meanwhile I will continue to search more on this wonderful, natural product!

I put 1 tsp. coconut oil into my oatmeal everyday. Makes it nice and creamy and is very good for your health.

Recipe: 1 cup milk 2%, 1/3 cup Robin Hood quick oatmeal, 1 tsp. coconut oil, 1/2 cup frozen cranberry's. Microwave for 3 min. on high. Stir and sprinkle with cinnamon...YUMMY...!!!
