Cool Skirt Styles for Every Body Type

Updated on June 23, 2013

The official start of summer is fast approaching, and with it are warmer temperatures. While some of us may be fortunate enough to spend a few days at the beach or poolside, most of us will continue our usual routines of going to work or school during the hot summer months. A perfect way to stay cool during the summer is to don some of the latest and cutest skirt styles.

But alas, all skirts are not created equal! So how do you find the right skirt style to compliment your body shape? Here are a few fun tips to assist you in your next shopping trip to find the right skirt.

Boyish body types are very athletic, toned, lean, and are usually very straight up and down. This type of figure should avoid pencil skirts and instead opt for peplum skirts that have ultra-feminine details that create the illusion of a small waist and soft curves.

Curvy girls have hourglass figures complimented by ample bosoms and hips with smaller waists. Pencil skirts at knee length that sit high on the waist flatter this figure the best by hugging curves in all the right places.

Full Figured

Plus size figures have larger bust lines and hips with a fuller midsection. Pencil skirts also work very well on this type of figure. Look for pencil skirt styles that hug curves and end at the knee while adding definition to the waistline.

Pear Shape

The pear shape is characterized by figures that have a small bust with a fuller bottom. A-line skirts are best for this body type. Look for styles that define the waist and hit mid-thigh. And be sure to add lots of detail or color on top to help balance proportions by drawing the eye upward to balance out the bottom.

Petite figures are generally under 5’3” in height with small bone structure. These body types should try tailored miniskirts that are a bit shorter in length ending just above mid-thigh. The extra tailoring and details help add dimension to smaller frames.

Hopefully these tips will help make your search for the right skirt fun and easy. No matter what your body type, you’ll be sure to look great while showing lots of leg!

I love skirts ~ with pencils being my favorite. Easy for summer and the next best thing to wearing shorts to work.
