Being able to dress up as Minnie Mouse is a special thing for your child, they have fun and feel beautiful. It is much easier than you think to make a fantastic costume. There is no need to dish out unnecessary money on outfits and costumes that you can easily make yourself!
Things you'll need for your Minnie Mouse Costume
Lots of fabric stores and online shops will supply you with the required materials needed for a costume with great results. The things you will need are:
- Plain black headband
- Black felt
- Black tights or leggings
- Red material with white polka dots
- Red and white ribbon
Now it's time to put it all together
Once you have all of your materials together you can start to design and build your Minnie Mouse costume! This should not take a vast amount of time and it is relatively easy to complete.
Let's begin with the ears
Minnie Mouse would not be the same without her big, round ears. This will be our starting point, our trademark if you will. This is simple to do and requires the plain black headband, the red and white ribbon and the black felt. Take your black felt and sketch out two even shaped circles. These should be rather large in size.
Using a scissors, cut the felt so that you have two circular shaped pieces. Once you have these use the glue to stick the felt to the headband. Finish the headband off with a red bow made from red ribbon. The bow should have white polka dots on it, so if you could not find a material with white polka dots already printed on it, use the scissors to cut some white circles from the white ribbon.
Complete by glueing the white circles to the red ribbon and sticking to the headband. (Use a pencil to sketch the circles on the white ribbon before you cut them for a neater result.) Leave to one side to dry.
Now let's move on to Minnie Mouse's dress
The material you've purchased for the dress will be red in colour with white polka dots. Do not worry if it is just a simple plain red material. Do as you did with the bow and cut some white circles to glue onto the dress, resulting in a white polka dot effect. This may take a little more time so get your child or someone else to help you with this task.
Minnie Mouse has rather puffy arms on her signature dress so mimic this style by stuffing the sleeves with tissue paper. Ensure you measure your child before you do the dress' measurements! You want it to fit snugly and comfortably.
Finish the Minnie Mouse costume off with some black or yellow shoes
You may already own a pair of suitable shoes for the finishing touch to the outfit. If not, many shops will stock these also. Fit your child with a pair of black tights or leggings to look excactly like their favourite character, Minnie Mouse!
Once the shoes and tights/leggings are fitted together with your outfit, the Minnie Mouse costume is complete! Overall it should take just over an hour, depending on the pace you work at!
Getting help from your little one will speed up the process and help them to enjoy arts, crafts and designing just like you do! Teach them a thing or two about what they wear, before they wear it!
Now it's time for them to show it off to their friends! Enjoy your very own low price Minnie Mouse costume. It just goes to show you can create something from nothing without the price tag.
