DIY Acne Busting Facial Mask
What is Acne?
Blackhead, pimples, whiteheads, zits. We've all had them, but what are they really? These are all forms of acne which is inflamed or irritated hair follicles clogged with oil, sweat, dead skin cells and dirt. Most known for plaguing teenagers acne can hit anyone however.
Since almost everyone suffers from acne at some point in their life, we are bound to pick, squeeze, or pop the nasty blemishes. This can lead to loner lasting blemishes called acne scars. So what are you to do?
Why DIY over Purchasing Acne Products?
Organic do-it-yourself skin and hair treatments are usually much gentler. Without the harsh chemicals that the products you can purchase at your local drugstore have, these treatments can be just as effective if not more. They are pretty simple and quick to make, inexpensive, and in the long run better for your health.

T. I made this mask in high school and have been using it ever since. I always use it when I have a bad case of breakouts and within 3 days my skin is back to clear again. Because apple cider vinegar is not the most pleasant smelling thing there is I recommend doing this before you get a shower, that way if it gets in your hair you can wash it right out. I also recommend using all organic products if possible. Let's get started!

What you will need
You are going to need your basic ingredients that we mentioned in the table. If you want to use this more than once wrap it in saran wrap and put it the fridge after mixing it and it will last a couple days.
First you need your egg white separated from the yolk. You will also need 1/2 tbsp of honey 1/4 tsp apple cider vinegar and 1/4 tsp lemon juice.
Now lets go a little more in depth on what these ingredients will do for your skin.
Honey: Because honey is a natural antibacterial and opens your pores, it is great to prevent and reduce acne and unclog pores. It also has loads of antioxidants that is great for slowing down aging and preventing winkles. It helps your complexion by soothing and moisturizing the skin reducing redness and creating a lovely glow.
Lemon Juice: The acid in lemon juice can be irritating to some that is why we use so little and dilute it with honey and egg white. The same acid is great for reducing and healing acne because like honey lemon juice is also a natural antibacterial ingredient and is also an exfoliate. This will help unclog pores, reduces the appearance of scars, age spots, and acne marks. It will also help reduce and prevent blackheads and how severe they are.
Egg White: Egg whites are great for pores and tightening the skin. They help close pores and reduces and prevent white heads, while shrinking large pores. It can also be used to remove unwanted facial hair.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar does wonders at balancing the skins pH and this helps prevent and reduce acne as well as help achieve a more even complexion. It also helps to gentle exfoliate the skin.
Now lets start making our mask.
- First take your egg and separate the egg white from the yolk into a bowl.
- Add your other ingredients and whisk until the mixture is at a frothy consistence.
- Take the face mask and use an old foundation brush if you have one to apply. You might notice that there is more mixture than what you may need. Let the first layer dry and apply another. After the second layer you can put plastic wrap and pop it into the fridge for a couple days.
- Give it 5-15 minutes to dry and tighten. This is where the egg whites and our juice, vinegar, and honey do their magic. As the mask dries your skin will absorb the ingredients shrinking any large pores and unclogging any black or whiteheads.
- Once your mask has dried take a warm wet washcloth and wipe off the mask gently. This is going to help remove any dead skin and help unclog pores.
I like to do this before I get into the shower, that way if i get some in my hair I don't have to smell apple cider the entire time. Use twice a day if possible and within 3-5 days you should notice a difference in your complexion and any acne or acne marks/scars.
That's it guys. I hope you like this recipe and if you try it out let me know in the comments below what you thought of it!
