LV (Louis Vuitton) Damier Ebene Speedy 30 review

Updated on July 8, 2012

I bought the LV Damier Ebene Speedy 30 exactly one year ago. I did not use for work, just the weekends because I don't feel like this handbag is appropriate for where I work. People at my work are very conservative and would think that such an expensive handbag is very wasteful or does not belong in a government facility. Anyway, I love this handbag and will use it for many more years. It is such a classic bag that matches well with lots of different outfits.

As you all know, the bag is dark yellow and brown checkered pattern. The handles are made of leather and the body of the bag is water resistant canvass. The inside has only one small pocket and a large red compartment. It comes with the brass Louis Vuitton lock and keys. The leather for the Damier Ebene is treated, so you can put the lock on the hole where it's supposed to go. It won't stretch the hole out. There is a D-ring inside in which you can attach things to the it to make it easier to find. It is a very stylish handbag that would go with most of your outfits. It is good for all seasons except summer. You should use a light colored handbag for the summer. I don't think you should take this bag to the beach, it's awkward. The ideal beach bag should be a tote of very light colors and fun patterns.

Quality is good overall, I did not have any problems. If you do, you can go back to a Louis Vuitton store and they will fix it. One time I hang my handbag on a metal hanger in a bathroom, when I took it off, it scratched one of the handles. I almost had a heart attack because of it. Even though the handles are dark colored and you will not even notice the scratch unless you look super close, I was still pretty upset. Here is the lesson learned, don't hang your handbag on a metal hanger ever.

One thing that bothers me about the speedy is that it loses its shape with lots of stuff in it. It doesn't have feet on the bottom, so it will lose the square shape with all of your stuff in it. The bigger the speedy, the more it will lose its shape. My speedy 30 is actually not that bad but it still bothers me. I made a base out of cardboard so that it won't lose its boxy shape even when it is completely full. You can also buy base shaper from online sources.

Would I recommend this bag over the so popular LV Damier Ebene Neverfull? Yes, I think the Neverfull is very useful but I just seem to like the Damier ebene speedy 30 so much more. The Neverfull would look better for someone that is a lot taller than me. But both handbags are gorgeous and it wouldn't hurt to have both styles.
