Dark skin or Fair skin: It is your skin please love it :)

Updated on September 15, 2015

Why so much obsession for fair skin? Don't you have the guts to look beautiful in your own skin?

This question was in my mind while I was using a fairness cream from a well known brand in my college days. I have a good body, beautiful hair, good skin and a dusky skin tone. Why do I want to look fair? For whom? My family loves me as I am , I have a big friend circle and everyone likes I have a boyfriend too. Did they ever tell me I was 'dark' or 'dusky' or I look 'pale' and I should have a fairer skin tone? No. I don't think so. Never they said something like that. That day I dumped everything I had in my cosmetics box that said "fairness". Was that any inferiority complex I was suffering with? I don't know but whatever it was I got over it. Now I only use products/cosmetics that my skin actually needs: just a cleanser, toner & moisturizer. When I go party, I only use foundations or BB creams that are one tone darker than my skin tone. And I look hot & glamorous!

I know and understand this not may be the case for every dark/dusky girl out there who is obsessed with a fair skin and wants to look fair. It is not strange to point out some basic reasons for that obsession: she might not be getting good proposals for marriage, not able to pursue her dream job that requires fair skin, insecurity of loosing her bf to a fairer girl etc. I have even seen parents and relatives taunting a girl for her skin disgusting. We need to change this. But first, we need to change ourselves. start loving yourself and everyone else will love you for what you are. Just be yourself.

Girls! Looking fair is not everything. Believe me once you ditch this idea of looking fair, all your insecurities and sorrows will be gone. Don't give your skin a fairness treatment. Just pamper your skin. Give your skin a happiness treatment instead. Smile as much as you can, Drink lots and lots of water. Use face masks according to your skin type (dry, oily, normal). Go for spas and beauty salons once in a month (if you can afford). If not look out for DIY face and body treatments.

Oh and the dark and dusky skin tones can carry some beautiful lip colors so well. So flaunt your sexy pouts and dusky skin girls!!
