Design Your Own Clothes Online - And Get Paid Money For It

Updated on September 19, 2014

How to Get Paid for Designing Clothes

Have you ever had an idea for a cool T-shirt or sweater? Have you ever wanted to wear something that was not available? Want to make money designing outfits?

Then this article is for you. This article will show you the best places online that allow you to design your own custom apparel, such as hats, shirts, customized diaper bags, etc. and then buy or sell it. This article will show you how to put extra money in your pocket for your own unique ideas.

And the best of all It is FREE!

Top Places For Apparel Design Online

1. The first website (and my personal favorite) is Spreadshirt.

Spreadshirt allows users to print in a variety of different options including glow in the dark, rhinestones, flex, and flock.Your items will ship within 24 hours. You can get paid by paypal or check. They will give you a free storefront, and they have been considered to have the best quality print. Open your own free online T-shirt shop today! .

2. The second website is Cafepress

Cafepress is one of the most popular design your own stuff websites. They hold strong advantage with the search engines. In theory This will allow your creations to rank higher when they are searched for. They allow you to open a free store as well.

3. The third website is Zazzle

Zazzle is the website that I have had the most success with. I tend to create funny and funky shirts, and it seems that they are big sellers on Zazzle. You have the option to open many free storefronts at Zazzle. This is so that each store has a custom theme for your created apparel.

Each website has its advantages and disadvantages. I recommend trying out all three. You should be able to find the links to these sites on this webpage. They all have unique features to them, and some will suit your tastes more than others. Feel free to browse around!

The best tip I can give you for being successful at designing clothes online and then selling them for a profit would be to be creative, and design as much as you can. Don't spend too much time on one project only for it to be a dud. You never really know what will be successful, and it is better to have many pans in the fire.

Stratagies For a Successful Design Store

In order to succeed with an online design store, other people must want to buy your designs. This means that you must cater to the masses, while still offering something different to other designs out there.

The best strategy for succeeding is to find what you know best and use it. What is it that you love to do that you find yourself explaining to other people? Whatever it is, there are multiple ways to use it to make money.

In my case I like football. So I design items around a subject that I know a decent amount about. The designs consist of:

  1. NCAA Football (Mascots, School Fight Songs, Team Colors with Funny Sayings)
  2. Funny football sayings
  3. Nostalgic football
  4. Famous NFL Quotes

And those categories are just a few of the subcategories that I have. Any subject that you are interested in will have an enormous amount of material for you to use. Just brainstorm and do not be afraid to fail. It might take some time before you start making good money at it, but if you focus on it, there is no doubt that you will make money. Good Luck and let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Aimee, Sorry for the delayed response! I didn't see your question about selling clothes online for free until now!

I would try out zazzle first and see how well you do at designing and selling. See how much traffic and response you can generate to your shop. You can do all that for free, then scale up when and if you are successful.

Frenzz - They have their own supply of shirts, you can just design them and either purchase them for yourself or you can sell the shirts to consumers. They take care of everything... just design it!
