Health Spas

There are numerous health spas around the world, and there are probably at least a few in your local area. There are many spas where you are pampered for a day, and many where you spend a week or even longer. Some of the reasons for going to a spa are to fight aging, to lose weight, to acquire better eating habits, to have quality sleep, to quit smoking or to just be pampered for a day.

In addition, your goals for a healing spa day may be to achieve inner peace, mental clarity, or to achieve balance from your head to your toes. Some people search for spiritual centeredness and others simply want a retreat day for a natural detox that aims at easing any tension in their body.

Mineral water has been thought to have a curative power since ancient times. Various spas with mineral water are very popular in Europe and in Japan. Day spas are also popular in Europe.

Spas are for men too as most spas are now gender-neutral. Men can get a massage or a hair treatment. Day spas, spas where you stay for a week or ten days, or those that last for several weeks are available around the world. It all depends on your needs and wants. Spas where you spend a week or more are often located in scenic areas where hiking is part of the package. Physical fitness is frequently a goal for patrons of this spa type.

Some spas have membership packages where you can choose one type of treatment each month. There are even family plans.

The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage every day.

Some Services Found at Spas

Massages and skin treatments are very popular, but there is a variety of other available services as well. Many spas understand that your lifestyle habits, your health and your mind-body balance are all connected. The health spas that last for a week or more work to treat the whole body.

Available spa services include:

  • Body massage using essential oils
  • Facial with a skin care consultant
  • Foot massage
  • Manicure
  • Body treatment with a Vichy shower
  • Steam sauna treatment
  • Hair treatments
  • Botox treatment
  • Microneedling treatments
  • CoolSculpting treatment
  • Acutonics
  • Fitness routine with personal trainer or instructor (Yoga instruction)
  • Acupuncture is sometimes offered
  • Decadent meals with wine or nutritionist-designed meals

A Vichy shower has from 5 to 7 vertical shower heads, therefore large quantities of water spray over your body while you lie on a swallow bed with drainage holes.

Microneedling (collagen induction therapy) uses tiny sterile needles to treat skin problems, which include acne scarring, loose skin, wrinkles, fine lines, brown skin spots, pore size, stretch marks and pigment issues.

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved fat freezing procedure that a non-surgical way to remove fat that has been resistant to dieting and exercise. This procedure makes you look good and it lasts.

Acutonics is a method that uses sound healing to find balance. It uses the power of vibration, intention with light touch to bring the body into greater harmony with the mind.

Scalp Treatment at the Day Spa

Ionic Foot Detox

Another popular treatment is the ionic foot detox, which is designed to pull toxins out of your body through your feet, A popular foot detox bath uses IonCleanse. The bath water for the feet supposedly holds a charge that is supposed to bind to heavy metals and other toxins released from your body.

There was a study done in 2012, that looked at IonCleanse and found that the foot detox did not reduce toxin levels in the body.

Wellness Spas for Fitness

Many spas offer hiking and nutrition that is focused on restorative fitness in beautiful scenic surroundings. Hiking in beautiful mountains or on a Caribbean island, while eating wholesome food, certainly beats dieting at home while jogging around the block.

Some of the spas over horseback riding, ziplines, yoga classes and stand-up paddle boards. Basically, you can get any activities or treatments you desire if your budget is adequate.

Luxury Spa Costs

The United States has 17,000 day spas per the International Spa Association (ISPA) and the rise in the no-frills day spas has reduced the cost. Asian spas in the larger cities has reduced the cost of a massage to about $40, which is about one half the cost of many day spas. Ulta, a beauty store, offers facial for about $60.

The prices in big cities for day spas run higher than those in smaller markets. The spas that furnish robes, slippers and a locker that has steam and sauna is obviously more expensive.

The typical prices at a day spa are:

  • Swedish massage for 1 hour is $80-$120
  • Spa manicure $40
  • European facial $80-$130
  • Spa pedicure $45-$55
  • Spa packages $150-$200 and up

Remember that taxes and tips are not included in these prices.

Longer stay spas that are moderately priced run about $300 a day, and a typical 7 night stay at some spas would run about $3,550. There is a more luxurious spa by the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona that costs $5,500 for a 7 night stay. The top of the line spas cost more like $9,000 for a week.

Crystal Spa, A Day Of Pampering - For Men

In Conclusion

Day spas are great for a good facial or a massage. Enjoying a luxury spa is great assuming you can afford the cost. There are often coupons with reduced problems for the day spas in your area, so a facial or other service becomes more affordable for the average person.

What a fun and informative article! I'm not big on visiting a spa, but I enjoy having spa days at home. Doing face masks, hair treatments, and fixing my nails is always time well spent.

My sister and I bought a spa package this summer for our mom's 81st birthday. She's always taking care of others, busy with her garden club, taking care of her one acre of garden property, etc. We decided to treat her to an hour and a half of being pampered. She loved it! It was in a fancy hotel on A1A in South Florida where she lives, so she didn't have far to drive. Then our dad met her at the hotel and treated her to lunch on the beachfront patio. She was in heaven!

This is an excellent article on Spas, Pamela. I have been to some day spas and have greatly enjoyed the experience. I've had a couple of facials, a foot massage and pedicure. I also had access to the steam room and sauna. I felt like a queen for the day. It certainly rejuvenated me and I think it was worth the price. I think that it's great to hear that more lower cost spas are opening up, such as malls, where people can enjoy massages and facials for a reduced cost. I'll have to try Ulta. There's also a place called Massage Envy that offers body massage at much lower prices than many of the day spas. Your article is full of good suggestions for great treatments and places to go for a spa retreat! Thanks for sharing.

I have never been to a spa. When I was spending my winters in Fla. I went in a shop to have a pedicure and contacted the worst case of athlete's foot, so I am fearful, but it sounds like fun.

Here is a fun one. I loaded up my little lady of pregnant and took her to a spa. They did a foot massage and the next day she delivered Gabe a month early -- everyone convinced it was the massage. Thank our lucky stars he was huge. Another month would have not gone well.

Me, I go for a message at least once a month. My ladies are Chinese. It is good. When I visit my other home in Vietnam I go in for hours. Then I am ready to kick some business -- B---
