Basic Eye Makeup Essentials Every Girl Must Own

Updated on July 4, 2014

Smartly applied eye makeup can make your eyes pop. Eye makeup needn’t always be heavy and cakey, even a fine line of kajal and a bit of mascara can brighten up your face and make your eyes look beautiful. But, before you start applying your eye makeup, make sure to keep these eye makeup essentials close at hand. Here are a couple of things your makeup bag must contain:

Eyeshadow Primer:

This handy cosmetic helps create an even base for your eyeshadow. It smooths over creases and wrinkles, providing an even layer over which eyeshadow can be applied with ease. By applying a primer, you won’t find creases appearing in your eye makeup despite blinking and squinting all day. Eyeshadow primers also boost the colour of your eyeshadow, making it appear more vibrant.

Good Eyeshadow Shades:

Keep a couple of palettes with colours that complement the colour of your eyes. It’s good to have metallic as well as matte shades so that you have suitable eyeshadows for daytime as well as night-time occasions. Shimmering peach, matte taupe, matte ivory and dark grey are colours that look good on most women, so do invest in these shades. Additionally, you could stock up on cream-based as well as powdered eyeshadows and choose the type appropriate for the season.

Kajals or kohl pencils are ideal for defining your lower lash lines. They are safe for your eyes and are also easy to apply. The L’Oreal Paris Kajal Magique kohl liner is extremely good as it is water-proof, smudge-proof, long-lasting and is also enriched with Vitamins C & E, cocoa butter and olive oil.

Liquid eyeliners are perfect for defining your upper lash lines. Choose an eyeliner that has intense-colour pigments, is water-proof and long-lasting. Gel eyeliners too impart rich colour to your eyes and are easy to apply. Apart from a classic black eyeliner, keep a couple of coloured eyeliners too. These eyeliners make your eyes look stylish and attractive without the need for eyeshadow. Check out the L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gel Matic Range of eyeliners as they have some really trendy shades.

Mascara plumps up and adds volume to your eyelashes, giving you long, luscious, angelic lashes. So, make sure you have a good water-proof, smudge-proof mascara. Always apply two coats of mascara to get perfect long lashes.

Eyebrow Pencil:

Eyebrow pencils help define your eyebrows, especially if you have sparse eyebrows. Choosing the right shade is important here as you don’t want your eyebrows to seem fake. So, choose a shade that is closest to or slightly lighter than your natural shade. Always keep your eyebrow pencil well-sharpened.

Eye Makeup Brushes:

For applying eye makeup flawlessly, you need the tools to do so, Most eye makeup cosmetics come with brushes, but these are three brushes you should invest in- An eyeshadow brush, blending brush and a smudging brush. Invest in good brands so that these brushes last long and always keep your brushes clean.

Never wipe smudges or blotches with your bare hands. Dab with a clean tissue instead. So, always keep a pack of clean tissues close at hand. Similarly, to clean your eyelids and get all the makeup off it, make use of a powerful eye makeup remover. Ensure that the remover is safe for your skin and eyes.

I used to do my eyes up like that. Green was my color of choice. Your hub inspires me to perhaps return to those habits!
