Eyeglasses Ordering Online

Updated on July 15, 2020

My prescription had expired. I had not been to the optometrist for long enough that my current prescription expired last year.

I got in for an exam and got my current prescription. My eye doctor is not pushing frames, so he suggested ordering them from somewhere else unless I was willing to come back in say, months...

My regular doctor was fairly confident that I would benefit from ordering from Zenni Optical. She said she had a friend try it out and purchased many pairs for her kids. Inexpensively.

They have informational videos. Glasses are extremely exacting. There is your actual lens prescription. There is the face shape. Then, they need to know how far apart your pupils are. Not to mention, once you have that figured out, then they want the measurement from center of pupil to center of nose, on both sides. Someone pointed out that the two bridge to pupil measurements equaled your pupillary distance, so it was a good way to verify you have the correct number

You can use their virtual try on app to see how the glasses look on you. It's weird because that's one of the things I have never gotten to do before. First of all, I cannot see without my own glasses, so to try on a frame with plain glass in them (without prescription) I'm afraid I'm blind and cannot see myself.

So, the virtual try on is kinda cool!

Well, I'm coming up with 60 for a pupil distance, and 30/30 for my bridge to pupil distances. I see that the 7 was the wrong number

124 mm

124 wide divided by 2 equals 62 for center
124 wide divided by 2 equals 62 for center

The rest of the numbers should be okay.

My frame width worries me because many of the frames are quite a bit wider than my current glasses.

The glasses that I am used to wearing have been discontinued.

Ahhh, bummer...

Another company had an app that measured your PD for you. It took a few days, but an email finally arrived that revealed it.

Zenni has a virtual try on app that allows you to see what the frames will look like on your face. That is the hard part about buying them at the store.

Sure I can try them on. But, without a prescriptive lense, I cannot see myself.

What do you think of these frames? I ordered them.
