Face Mask and Face Pack- Herbs for Face Pack

Updated on December 2, 2013

Face is the mirror of a person's health. If the face is not cared properly, it will suffer from premature ageing and become dull. Clear and healthy face can be yours at any age, if you spend some time taking care of it every day.

Facial Mask or Face Mask

It is a deep exfoliating treatment. It must be done at least once in a week for oily skin. Sandalwood paste, tulsi leaf paste, lemon peel or fresh neem leaf paste can be used for face mask. These are applied on the face after washing with lukewarm water. After 30 minutes when it gets dry, the face can be washed off with plenty of water.

Face Pack

Ayurveda suggests different face packs for different seasons. During monsoon, medicinal drugs such as sandalwood, Wild Himalayan cherry, Fetid cassia and Vetiveria zizanioide can be used either individually or as a combination. Fine powders of all the above mentioned medicinal drugs are made into a paste by adding water, either cold or lukewarm, rose water, milk or butter milk.

Herbs for face pack

The common herbs used for preparing face pack are:

Sandal wood ( Santalum album) Medicinal properties- heals burning sensation, head-ache, memory loss, hyper perspiration, cardiomyopathy, ulcer, jaundice, cough and inflammation.

Khus grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) Medicinal properties- burning sensation, ulcer, skin diseases, nausea, colic, flatulence, cough, fever, low back pain, headache and general debility.

Wild Himalayan cherry (Prunus cerasoides) Medicinal properties- burning sensation, wounds, ulcers, skin discolouration, diarrhea, asthma and fever.

Fetidcassia (Cassiatora) Medicinal properties- skin diseases, dandruff, constipation, cough, hepatitis, fever, and hemorrhoids.

Papaya Mask
Banana Mask
Orange Pack
Avocado Pack
Almond Pack
Mix Papaya pulp with a teaspoon of raw milk, honey, rose water and apply all over face and neck, leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. This is a great mask for dry dull skin. Papaya provides the necessary nourishment while milk and honey provide moisture to the skin making it soft.
Mix banana with honey and keep it on face for 10 minutes. Very effective for dry skin. A mix of banana, yogurt and egg white can be applied to remove wrinkles and to bring a natural glow.
Mix milk and honey with orange juice. Regular use on the face makes it fresh, smooth and soft. A perfect mask made with orange juice and plain yogurt will clean the pores and nourishes it .
Take some avocado pulp, mix well to make a paste. Apply it on face and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash with cold water. This will helps the skin to become smooth and soft.
Best for wrinkles. Take four almonds and grind it to form powder. Mix this with 1 teaspoon honey and 1 eggwhite. Apply and wash after 15 minutes. A mix made with eggwhite, oat powder and honey is also best to get rid of wrinkles.

Premature ageing

Ageing causes dryness and wrinkling of the skin. Worries, stress, tension, strain and irregular sleeping habits speed up ageing. There are various options to prevent the development of wrinkles, but the choice depends on the nature of the skin. They include massaging the face with ghee, coconut oil or almond oil, application of face pack of grated cucumber or of fresh aloe vera gel or sandal wood paste.

Warning: If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, just avoid it.

Interesting Hub. It's nice to read about the ingredients that are in face scrubs. I tend to use Apricot Face scrubs, but never check the ingredients. Now, I can make my own. Thanks.

@kerlynb Natural masks are effective and take its own duration to take effect. Make sure that before applying any facial mask, the face should be washed and cleaned with a mild facial wash. One of the advantage of natural masks is that they do not do any harm unless the person is allergic to that particular component. Sp please try banana and orange masks. Thanks for comment and vote.

I have personally tried papaya and avocado masks at home. And I have to say I noticed that my skin has become more supple, clear and glowing than before, not that I have perfect skin, I don't. I think I would try your banana and orange masks, too. Thanks for the information! Voting your hub up and useful!
