Fashion ~ Most Embarrassing Day

Updated on September 3, 2012

.

It was Friday 31 August. I had to meet up with a friend for about an hour. I got to the train station on time, bought my ticket and as I walked towards the platform, the train arrived. I sat down feeling relaxed, looked at my feet and noticed even though I had two black slippers on, they were two different ones.

“Oh My God!! This can not be happening and the train is already moving.”…. I thought.

.

A while ago, I bought a lovely pair of black slippers and liked them so much, that I bought another similar pair but with a different design. I don’t wear outdoor shoes/slippers around the house because of the cream coloured carpets – so most of my shoes/slippers are by the door. I was in such a hurry and just thought I wore the same pair.

.

Similar Slippers - Different Designs

So, I hoped and prayed that people wouldn’t pay any attention to my feet. My friend just kept on laughing when he saw it. What helped me was that I had my sunglasses which I could hide behind, if anyone noticed. I bet those who did must have thought:

  • "Is this a new fashion trend?"
  • "Poor girl, must have forgotten her medication."
  • "What’s up with her?"
  • "Didn’t she notice her slippers are different?"
  • "Nutter!!"

Oh.... I cringed all the way back and was so relieved when I got home. That’s the first and hopefully last time, I’ll ever do that.

Have you ever had a fashion faux pas / embarrassing fashion moment?

You know they look nice,if I see only that picture without reading your hub,I would think that it was a new fashion trend. The same thing happened to me when I was still at Univ ,I wore a Tshirt inside out ,I was angry and at the end of the year I went to pass the exam with pyjamas pants with no undies :)It was real scorching day.

That is funny. I think we just get in a rush and forget to check ourselves before leaving the house. Once I was climbing the steps at daycare to drop off my son before work when I saw my feet. They were cozy and warm in my old dilapidated bedroom slippers. I laughed even then. I figure if people have nothing else to talk about, I am giving them something interesting. Thanks for giving me a funny start to my day.

Fantastically funny. I believe I would have played it as if I had meant to do it to see if my friend noticed. A fun read, thank you.

@MsDora I'm so glad I'm not alone. :-) We are all human.... but you do get so self conscious. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes.

@PaulGC - Oh my Dayz, your's is the best story, followed by Acaetnna's. It wasn't even plain, they were your tinted or dark sunglasses, with one glass missing. lol... and then Tonsillitis. Aaaawh, anyway I'm glad your friend saw you. Cheers.

Hello Lady E, wonderful hub. I once walked about town with one piece of glass missing from my sunglasses, i didn't notice until i bumped into my friend and he asked if i had something wrong with my eyes. In my defence i was suffering from tonsilitis that day. Great hub, voted up and awesome.

I've worn odd shoes before. Was self-conscious the entire time, but if it happens again, God forbid, I'll drawing attention to it, laugh and tell my audience that lots of people do it. I'll have them read this hub and comments as proof.

OMG I have done a similar thing! Dressed in the dark one morning and went to school wearing two different boots. The stupid thing was that one was an inch higher than the other so I was limping and hobbling all day! It is the fun things like this though that really make us laugh! Great hub as always and thanks for sharing.

      Lady_E,

This was really cute! Nice slippers too! In my case it's easy to avoid since I only have one pair that I wear away from the house. Now if we count socks, well thats a whole different story :-) Up and Funny!

@Teaches12345 - Hello Diane, thanks for sharing your husbands story, it's not so bad if it's dark colours. Ps. I went to your profile to check your first name again (I hope it's Diane.) I noticed you asked readers to check link to ~DEEs, but the link isn't there. Just to let you know. I do that sometimes too.

@Mamakim - I'm assuming your mum or dad gave you a lift to school because if you walk out of the house straight into a car, you never notice you are still wearing fluffy slippers. lol. Aaawh... and then you had the painting smear too. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading it.

^_^ I once went to high school wearing house slippers... big fluffy ones.. I was so embarrassed. I had work after school so during lunch I went and bought some shoes (home was too far of a drive to get back to school on time.) I'm also an oil painter... one time, senior year, I got a glob of paint on my chest (darn things get in the way!) and didn't realize... by the time I noticed the paint was smeared all over the front of my shirt and sleeves.

Thanks for the laugh ^_^ voted a bunch!

Hahaha I was laughing all the time reading Lady! Mine was arriving to the office and discovered my other shoe's embellishment (with size half of a saucer) was not there anymore. My colleagues started to laugh teasing they'll set a prize for that person who has kicked the ribbon off my shoe! hahaha. Of course, that was very noticeable. I'm sure I gave people a good laugh, as well :=)

I went out of town once and did not take extra shoes only to discover I'd worn one navy shoe and one black one. The styles were the same so it wasn't highly noticeable, but I was self-conscious a little. Mostly I just laughed at myself.

WILD! That happened to me once. All my shoes are black. I generally dressed funny anyway. I was at work and I noticed mt shoes were not the same.People, who might have noticed probably thought it was just another of my fashion statements.
