Best Front Fastening Bras: Review and Recommendations

Updated on May 6, 2012

If you're finding it more and more of a battle to fasten your standard back closure bra, front fastening bras may be just what you're looking for. Some rear closure bras are so difficult I've occasionally taken to hooking them in the front and turning them around. Lately I've been having my fair share of wrist pain, so I decided it was time to look into front fastening bras for myself.

As the proud owner of some fabulous front fastening bras, I can tell you there are some significant advantages:

  • Of course, they are much easier to fasten and unfasten.
  • The right one can be more comfortable than your standard bra since you don't have the sharp hooks digging into your back.
  • You can actually SEE where the clasps attach to the hooks instead of the guessing game involved with rear clasps.
  • Front fastening bras are less likely to sag in the front than the back fastening bras.
  • Some have a wide band or a criss cross band in the back that offers better support. The band can also provide upper back support and aid in improving posture.
  • They have a more seamless look in the back.
  • Great for people with arthritis in the hands and wrists or people with shoulder problems.
  • Criss cross elastic bands on the back allow for an excellent custom fit.

Best Overall Front Fastening Bra

Glamorise Wonderwire Front Close Stretch Lace Bra #9245

You can't go wrong with this Glamorise bra. It's very comfortable and easy to get in and out of. Not to mention, it's attractive! You can put it on and go about your day without it sliding, digging into your skin or having underwire poking into very undesirable places. It's called "wonderwire" because it's cleverly constructed built-in wire can't make contact with your skin, but you still get the benefit of the support wire provides. I love how well it lifts your breasts and keeps the girls where they should be. It has wide, comfortable, adjustable straps so you can get a custom fit. The cups are made of stretchy lace that provide a seamless look and maintain their shape over time. In other words, the cups don't readily stretch out and lose their ability to support your breasts. It doesn't have hook and eye closures, but rather a barrel front close, where one side slides into the other. It's a great everyday bra.

Best Front Fastening T-Back Bra

Wacoal Women's Front Close T-Back Bra #65124

T-back bras are great for sleeveless or deep armhole shirts but you may find yourself wearing this Wacoal bra everyday, regardless of whether or not you need a t-back. If you haven't discovered the wonders of Wacoal bras yet, you're definitely missing something. While not the cheapest bras on the market, you definitely get what you pay for with this company. The quality is just outstanding and their bras stand the test of time. Wacoal uses quality materials, elastic and fabric, so it will maintain its shape without stretching out.

The cups are very natural and give you a beautiful shape to your bustline. I recently traveled across the United States and hate feeling uncomfortable on planes. I literally didn't even know I was wearing this comfortable bra. As a well-endowed woman, I'm quite pleased by how well it supports my breasts and gives me shape, without the dreaded uni-boob look. I don't normally wear t-backs, so I was concerned it would feel funny. I was pleased with how quickly I became accustomed to it. I love how the straps don't fall off my shoulders and how readily it adjusted in the back for a custom fit.

This is a great everyday bra, or bra for sleeveless dresses and blouses. I have gone on to purchase another one I've loved it so much.

Best Ones for Large Breasted Women

Playtex Women's Front Close With Flex Back Bra, #4695B

If you can believe it, this is a wire-free bra that actually provides support for large breasted women. I'm telling you, this bra is not only flattering, but is so comfortable due to its wide padded straps. And, the straps also stay in place for once, they are designed to be no-slip. The full cups provide full coverage and the ultimate support. There is no constant adjusting, tugging and pulling to get the bra back where it should be. The adjustable criss cross back makes for a perfect fit. It has large, easy to close hooks and eyes.

I can even exercise in this bra, that's how supportive it is. I love how my upper back feels supported, too.

Word of warning: The bra sits fairly high, so wearing it with a low cut blouse won't work very well. Also, since the straps are wide, some shirts like scoop necks won't properly cover the straps.
