Fruit Lip Balm Recipe
Fruit Lip Balm
Lip Balms ~
Lip Balms are incredibly easy and cheap to make once you have the core ingredients.
The smallest amount makes up quite a few containers which will keep you well stocked in lip balm or you have the ideal gift for your friends, family and for party favors.
Citrus flavors are ones that work particularly well combined with other flavors but other popular fruits include strawberry, coconut, watermelon, cherry, tropical fruits, raspberry, banana, apple, and apricot.
The beauty with making your own lip balm is you know exactly what is going into them and you can mix and match the flavors as you wish.

Prevent Dry Lips ~
Lip balms are something we all need including children who can suffer with dry chapped lips frequently.
Be it the cold weather in the winter or the hot humid days of summer weather has a direct impact on our skin, including the delicate lips.
Being able to make your kids their own personalized lip balm is something they can get involved with under your supervision.
The balms do not have strong coloring( if any) but the combination of ingredients such as Shea butter, olive oil and beeswax ooze health, goodness, protection, and moisture.
Essential basic ingredients for you and your little ones who are particularly prone to licking their lips which only makes their lips drier.

Organic Ingredients ~
Whenever possible, using organic ingredients is highly preferable but not essential if on a strict budget as they do tend to cost a little extra.
With organic you are guaranteed the very purest and most beneficial form of ingredient.
Whether it is for a homemade skin care product or a citrus lip gloss recipe, a layered lip gloss or even a candy flavored lip gloss choose your raw ingredients wisely from reputable sources.
Organic ingredients means your homemade cosmetics are free of pesticides, toxins, synthetic fragrance and other harmful chemicals often found in store bought beauty products.
Lip Scrub ~
If you do not use a lip scrub, start! I cannot stress enough how beneficial this is to our lips. Check out Lip Scrub Recipe to Recondition Dry Lips for an easy recipe using lip friendly ingredients plus lots of valuable information to keep your lips moist and lush.
Lip scrubs are important to incorporate into your weekly skin care routine. By gently exfoliating our lips we remove the dead skin cells which accumulate daily and leave the lips feeling dry, rough and sluggish in appearance. Lip balms, lip gloss and lipstick will look and feel so much better by giving the lips a quick rejuvenating beauty treatment. Quick and Easy Beauty Tips will give you more useful simple ways to keep the lips in perfect condition and some simple tricks I have learnt.

Benefits of Lip Balm Ingredients ~
Beeswax –
One of the most effective skin care ingredients. Beeswax locks in moisture, is extremely nourishing, softening, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory and provides a lasting barrier against the elements (it is not a sunscreen). It is particularly effective in the treatment of chapped lips and skin irritations.
Shea Butter –
Shea butter contains high levels of essential fatty acids and antioxidants which work to keep the lips well moisturized and helps repair damaged skin. It helps soothe skin conditions and restores skin elasticity.
Mango Butter –
Mango butter is another hugely beneficial ingredient for skin care and lip balms which promotes healthy rejuvenated skin. It heals sunburn, skin irritations, inflammations and skin rashes. It treats dry skin, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles and may be used as a shaving cream, in the same way as olive oil can.
Olive Oil –
One of the giants in terms of skin benefits, never mind its health benefits and 101 unusual uses. In lip balms it is a natural moisturizer, skin healer, skin softener, exfoliant and prevents premature ageing of the skin. Olive oil helps to leave the skin silky smooth and may be used alone as a night-time moisturizing treatment before bed.
Sunflower Oil –
This is another hugely beneficial skin ingredient. Rich in anti-oxidants and beta-carotene it helps protect the skin and lips from the harsh elements. As it is so high in beta-carotene, caution should be taken for anyone with a known allergy to this fat soluble compound and do not use before seeking medical advice. Sunflower Oil has anti-ageing properties, is healing oil and helps soothe irritated skin.
Mandarin Essential Oil –
This sweet citrus essential oil is a favorite of both adults and children. The dominant flavor here, it may be used to treat acne, dull skin, wrinkles, scars, oily skin and spots.
Nutmeg Essential Oil –
This is warm spicy aromatic oil commonly used in potpourri and incense sticks that is a perfect partner with mandarin. It has many benefits to the health and is widely used in cosmetics, soap manufacturing, cooking and as flavoring. Uses include stimulating brain activity, mental fatigue and stress.

At this time of year, here in the cold weather, nothing beats a good lip balm. As usual, you do not disappoint. Going back many years, my doctor recommended shea butter to help get rid of stretch marks!
Voted up, useful, and totally awesome.
That orange and nutmeg lip balm sounds wonderful. My lips feel smoother just thinking about making one of these. Pinning.
I used to make lip balm all the time when I was younger. My lips are really chapped right now and I have all the basic ingredients I'd need for lip balm, if I can just remember where I put my nice beeswax. Hmmm....
Pinning!
i really love the lip balm bottle (1st photo)..looks really fresh and sweet smelling. I used lipbalm as a subsitute for lispsticks (we don't know the level of mercury present on that stick)
Another great hub of an idea. I love all the ingredients you list and include. I think Shea and Mango Butters are very essential elements for your skin. I've used Shea for over 15 years and swear by it. I really like the idea how you can create your own lip balm. Very nice. Thanks!
