Hair Clipper Reviews

Updated on April 25, 2013

There is a massive range of different hair clippers available, and the choice is somewhat confusing, especially when you consider the vast difference in prices, Which is why we decided to do this hair clippers reviews. If you are choosing hair clippers for men, which is why most people buy them, this guide will give you a good indication of which ones are worth buying, and which ones should be ignored. Basically – if it is not on this list – you shouldn't buy them.

I've been in the business many years, and I've probably used every pair of hair clippers from all the major manufacturers, and I've used amateur and professional versions of most of them. Generally the professional versions are more expensive than the amateur versions, but they will stand up to more abuse and last longer. Some of them can be very expensive for home use mind you, but generally they will last a very long time if you have three boys for example, and you usually cut your husbands hair, it is probably worth going for the professional versions, because they going to get a lot of use.

Oster 76076-010 Classic 76 Professional Hair Clipper

I would put this model as probably the best professional hair clipper a viable, it's a classic that has been on the market for many years and will definitely stand up to the three boys and husband scenario. You could probably use these Clippers 10 times a day for the next 10 years and they were still be working perfectly by the end of the 10 years.

They are a little expensive of course, but in this case you really do get what you pay for, and if you wait and buy for your time on Amazon you can usually find them at a discount, and anything less than $130 is a great price for these. I guarantee you will never need to buy another pair in your life.

They come in a variety of colors: brown, chrome, and funkadelic, and I don't think it makes any difference to the way they function. They usually come with a blade guard some lubricant and grease, plus a brush to clean them with, but you will almost certainly end up buying more lubricant at some point.

Wahl 79524 24-Piece Deluxe Hair Clipper Kit

This model from Wahl is far less expensive than the preceding model, but don't let that put you off, because for the money [usually less than 35 bucks] they are extremely robust it comes with a bunch of other things including combs and scissors and some other bits and pieces such as a barbers cape and neck duster, most of which are extremely poor quality, but seemed to fill the need in the market. And perhaps if you are cutting at home you will not have access to these things.

Honestly, for the money, and if you do have three kids, you will save yourself a fortune by cutting their hair at home, and will probably pay for this pair of wahl hair clippers by not making one trip to the salon.

A robust and good quality product that is well worth the money. I tend not to use them in the Salon because although the quality is quite good, they do tend to jam up quite quickly when compared with the more professional versions. But – for $35 – I think that is worth putting up with for home use.

Wahl Professional WA8451 Hair Clipper

This is a Wahl professional hair clipper, that is slightly more expensive than the preceding model. The reason it is only slightly more expensive is it doesn't come with all the knickknacks and do dars that come with the other version, so the manufacturer has saved themselves some money and increased the quality proportionately.

This will certainly outlast the amateur version, and if you don't need all the knickknacks [which I suspect most people will not], it is probably a better bet than the amateur model, because it tends not to jam up the way the amateur version does. They can usually be had for under $40, and definitely don't pay more than that much for them. After all – the main reason for cutting your family's hair at home is to save money. And these will certainly do that.

The only thing you have to remember with these is that they don't come with any lubricants, so you'll have to buy some lubricants when you buy the Clippers.

Andis 18485 Home Haircut 10 Piece Haircutting Kit

If you're looking for a cheap pair of clippers, these are particularly good value for money. You can usually buy them for around $12, and for the money they're extremely good quality. Unlike the professional versions, but not going to last forever, but I would expect at least a couple of years at the worst.

As I said before, one of the many reasons to buy a pair of clippers to use at home is to save money. Although I'm a professional hairstylist beautician by trade, I realize that some people need to save money on their sort of expenses. It comes with all the necessary guards and scissors and a small bottle of lubricant. Really for the money, I don't think I would be comfortable recommending anything else in this price range, as most of the other models around this price will fall to pieces in very short order.

Highly recommend and a great pair of hair clippers for the money.

Oster Professional 76023-510 Fast Feed Clipper with Adjustable Blade

This is another professional version, which is similar to the one beginning of the article, but to my mind these are the best in the way of mid price range clippers, perhaps not quite as long-lasting as the more expensive version but very usable on a day-to-day basis.

Very adjustable and very powerful when compared to the amateur versions because these are quite capable of cutting wet hair which many of the amateur versions struggle with. If you try these, I guarantee you'll be satisfied with the quality, because the manufacturers specialize in Salon quality products, and a very good job building an extremely tough piece of kit.

I don't want to gross you out or anything, but these things are quite capable of dealing with a wet tangled sheepdog. :D do not tell my clients I said so! But seriously, these are fantastic value for moneyAnd probably and probably the best mens hair clippers on the market.
