Heart Pendants for Christmas

Updated on August 16, 2010

If you are looking for Christmas gifts for the women in your life, heart pendants can be a great choice. Heart pendants make great gifts for women and girls of all ages, and come in many sizes, styles, and materials to choose from. Here are some tips for picking out the heart pendants for Christmas gifts.

1. Shop around.

If you have not bought heart pendants in the past, you may have some scouting to do before making a decision. Heart pendants come in literally thousands of styles and materials, so spend some time looking around to see what your options are. Look in department stores, jewelry stores, and online to get a grasp of the selection. Once you have a good idea of what is out there, you are ready to make a choice.

2. Choose the material you want.

As is the case with all jewelry, the material that it is made from will determine its longevity, durability, and price tag. Yellow gold, white gold, sterling silver, and platinum are all metals that will last a lifetime if properly cared for. These metals will also not discolor with time. While heart pendants will not likely have to suffer the wear that other jewelry like rings or bracelets do, you will still want to keep durability in mind, particularly if the gift is for an active woman.

Sterling silver is durable and will withstand harder use than many other materials.

3. Choose the size and style.

You will want to consider the size and style of the heart pendant when choosing. Think about the jewelry that your intended recipient already wears. Does she like large jewelry, or more delicate? Does she wear jewelry with embedded jewels or delicate detailing—or is unadorned jewelry more her style? Does she wear more traditional, symmetrical jewelry, or does she prefer jewelry with a more modern flair? Does she wear more silver or gold? You will want to choose a heart pendant that matches the style of jewelry she already wears.

Once you have identified a size and general style, hone your search. Some heart pendants are made of jewels or have diamonds or other jewels embedded in them. Consider the birthstone or favorite jewel of your recipient if this style appeals to her. If your recipient likes modern looking jewelry, look for heart pendants that are asymmetrical or have striking abstract elements. If your recipient likes earrings, consider getting a heart pendant that comes with matching earrings.
