Sexy Stilettos

Updated on September 21, 2016

What Are Stilettos?

Did you know that stilettos are actually named after the stiletto dagger. The reason it was named that is because of the extremely pointy heel of the stilettos. Which look quite familiar to that of the stiletto dagger. Stilettos have been worn since the 1940s, the height of the heels range anywhere from 1 inch to 10 inches.

There are many different types of stilettos, some are super tame, others are wild and extreme. The stiletto has truly evolved, and one sexy shoe sure to stands the "Test of Time". They have been worn for decades by women everywhere of all different nationalities and lifestyles. Below are a few different types of one of the world's most loved shoe.

"Classic Sexy Black Stilettos"

The classic sexy black stiletto has incredibly smooth lines, the toe is usually pointed and the heel is at least 5 inches or higher. You will mainly see this look in the office, work or church. This is considered to be a very tame type of stiletto. This type of stiletto is sexy without being too over the top, which is why these sexy heels are one of my favorite types to wear.

You can pair these classy heels with your favorite pencil skirt, or even a pair of pleated dress pants to give your look a little more of a flirtatious flare.

"The Formal Stilettos"

The formal stilettos have a heel between 2 and 5 inches, this is a very elegant, dressier stiletto. This type of stiletto usually has a bow, ruffle, or a pendant on the toe of the shoe. You will most likely see this version of the stiletto at weddings, proms and anywhere else fancy attire is worn.

Pair these super cute stilettos with mainly formal attire such as wedding dresses, prom dress, etc.... This kind of stiletto could end up looking too dressy when worn with regular, everyday clothing.

"The Over The Top Stilettos"

The over the top stilettos is a very wild stiletto, you will usually see this look at runway shows, or on celebrities when they want to make a statement. The heel for this look is very exaggerated, it can be between 5 and in some cases 12 inches. The style and design are usually very loud and fashion forward.

If you ever happen to wear a pair of over the top stilettos, make sure your clothes are just as wild. Anything from super bright dresses to ultra short minis compliments this off the wall look.

"The Stiletto Boots"

The stiletto boots are my favorite type of stilettos, the heel usually ranges from 2 to 6 inches. You will see this look just about anywhere when signs of cooler weather start to appear. I mean who doesn't love a pair of sexy boots.

The best thing to wear stiletto boots with is leggings, or skinny jeans to get a super, hot smoking look.

"The Platform Stilettos"

The platform stilettos are named that because of the wedge at the bottom of the front of the shoe. You will usually see this type of stiletto in night clubs, or any other kind of party where dancing may be involved. The platform in this stiletto actually makes them easier to wear, the wedge helps even out the weight better, which is why it is worn as a sexy dance shoe.

You could wear the platform stilettos with a pair of jeans, or with some hot pants for an ultra sexy match.

"The Sweetheart Stilettos"

The sweetheart Stilettos has a retro kind of appeal to it, the heel is usually quite small ranging from 1 to 3 inches. The design of this type of stiletto is usually very feminine and soft, you will usually see this look practically everywhere the shape and height of this heel make it a rather easy stiletto to wear.

Pair these stilettos with a cute pin-up kind of dress, or a soft black cardigan and a pair of skinny jeans, for a very cute retro look.

I love wearing high heels and personally I was under the impression that the term "stiletto" was only reserved for high-heeled shoes that were 4" or taller.

I agree that platforms are great for when you need to stand because they help alleviate some of the pressure between your foot and the ground, so it's more comfortable. However, as a semi-professional salsa dancer, I wouldn't really recommend them for dancing, in a nightclub or anywhere, because they're prone to fall off and don't allow you to bend your foot, so you can lose your balance if you're not careful.

I have written extensively on providing advice for dance-friendly shoes and clothes, which I invite you to read and provide your feedback on,

Loved this hub. From one shoe addict to another, thank you. Doesn't matter what kind of legs you have, a sexy heel will always make your legs look awesome. Thumbs up.

with the right body, they are sexy. But, they seem uncomfortable to walk in over long periods of time and create back problems in the long run, right?

Love the stillettos, especially the first pair of black ones. I have a pair just like those. I also love the boots. Cool hub dear one. I am already tall with long legs, so I do not need them five inches or anything! Thank goodness, but still high enough. Love the video, jams! God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper
