Hot Sunglasses: Wayfarers

Updated on July 26, 2013

In fashion, nothing is brand new. It is always recycled and then slightly changed for modern times. Lately, shades from the 80's have been seen on celebrities and everyday people. Also, the 60's cat eye style has been spotted as well. After awhile, you will begin to see how these vintage styles were inspiration for today's eyewear.

60's

The 60's way-farer look was all about glamour. They were over-sized and had rounded bottom edges. Notice that the top of the frames tilt upward slightly to form an understated cat eye. These were worn mostly with evening wear as they displayed ultimate sophistication.

80's

The 80's style of wayfarers was about a simple design that was usually showcased in black. They were not quite as big around the eyes compared to the style from the 60's. It was considered more casual and could be worn with anything.

Recently

From 2009 to 2011, the wayfarer style of eye wear made a come back, but varied from the 80's style. Instead of basic black, many different colors and patterns were introduced to please a wide fashion palette. This gives a more modern feel to this classic style. I first noticed these when I watched the movie 'Twilight'; Robert Pattinsen's character, Edward, wore a black pair. From then on, I have noticed more and more that celebrities, fashionistas, and everyday people continued to propel this trend. Do you think this fad will last?
