How To Grow Long Luxurious Hair

Updated on February 21, 2017

Tired of paying for pricey hair extensions and spending long countless hours in the hair salon, just to achieve long luxurious hair? Well have you ever thought about growing your own hair? I know, I know, I know, you tried that before and it didn't work, the process just took way to long. Well here in this article today we will run down a list of ways to grow your precious locks long and strong. First of all in order to understand the growth process, you have to know exactly what hair is. Hair is 90 percent protein, the root and the strand is the living part of the hair, the actual hair follicle that grows out, is not living, kind of like your finger nails. Since hair is predominantly protein, you should have a diet enriched with foods high in protein. Such as fish, low fat cheese, beans, eggs, soy milk and nuts. Taking vitamins enriched with folic acids or just a plan folic acid supplement will help grow hair. Pro-vitamin B5, Biotin and Niacin supplements will also encourage hair growth. Various essential oils also stimulate the scalp for hair growth as well. Pumpkin seed oil, peppermint oil, and eucalyptus oil just to name a few. Diet plays a big role in the production of hair growth. For many of us that already have long luxurious hair, it has a lot to do with genetics. Does your mother or father have long hair, or had long hair? For those of you that do not have biology on your side, long hair can still be achieved. Before we get into what we can do for growth, lets look at a few things that stand in the way of us having long locks. Stress can push hair growth into the resting phase, which will stop growth for months and the hair may even fall out, so try not to stress during this process of trying to accomplish long hair. Medication ,certain medications thin the hair and make it fall out, poor diet, and anemia can also contribute to slow or no hair growth. Lets look at a few things we can do to grow our hair.

Deep Conditioning

As we all know there is a large percentage of people going totally natural, no perms no colors, dyes or chemicals. I myself have been perm free for over a decade. For those of us who are not brave enough to go there yet, deep conditioning your hair is very crucial. Perms and color, tend to dry hair out, stripping it of its natural oils making the hair brittle, dry and damaged, which leads to breakage and hair falling out completely from the roots. When you deep condition your hair, you are protecting the shaft and making the hair stronger. For those of you, who have never deep conditioned your hair before, here are the basics. What You're doing is, applying a product, one I like to use and it's very good, is called Shea Moister, I squirt out a few dabs and rub it into my palms, run it from the roots of your hair down to the ends, Sometimes I use pure extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil as well. Once I have my whole head drenched in it, I place a plastic cap over my hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes I remove the cap and rinse the product out, it leaves my hair detangled, strong and shiny. Olive oil has inflammatory properties that encourage scalp health, its antioxidant enriched, it is also infused with fatty acids and vitamin E exactly what hair follicles needs. Another great conditioner that has been around for centuries and is an old beauty secret is Urine, yes Urine. Now this may sound gross , but just hear me out for a second, urine consist of 95% water, 2.5% urea and 2.5% minerals salt, hormones and enzymes. truth be told, models and beauty queens have been conditioning their hair with urine for years. Surprisingly, urea is in many house hold products including shampoo's and lotions, read the labels on your bottle. Urine treatments will make your hair grow long and healthy. Also a liquid multi mineral you want to give a try is, Good State ionic trace minerals. you can mix a shot of this in your conditioner and let it sit on your scalp. These minerals consists of 96 trace minerals that the body needs to regenerate cells and hair growth. Gold, copper, silver etc. just to name a few.

Stop Trimming Your Hair So Frequently

Cutting ends to make hair grow is a myth. Your hair grows from the roots, yes trimming your ends can give hair a healthy even look, but in all reality, it does not help hair growth. Hair does not grow evenly, so it will never be even, you are cutting off inches of progress. Hair grows one-half inch each month, that's 6 inches a year, if your cutting ends every 60 days, you are cutting off all the growth you will see for the year, no wonder you think your hair is not growing. I know beauticians can be pushy and encourage you to cut your ends every 60 days. First of all, you want to look at how long the beauticians hair actually is. If it's short or medium and your trying to achieve long luxurious hair, you might want to switch to someone who specializes in hair growth. The Beautician must have long hair themselves to prove that they can actually help you. Don't be bullied into getting your ends cut often, stick up for your hair, just say NO, it does belong to you. If you absolutely have to get them cut, I would say twice a year, every 6 months.

Give Your Hair A Break

Washing your hair daily does serious damage, I have a very flaky scalp, but I am down to washing once a week with a Eucalyptus shampoo that is natural and organic. I also air dry my hair every two weeks to give it a break from the blow dryer and flat iron. shampooing daily strips the natural oils from your hair and makes it dry and brittle. Daily, excessive use of flat irons and blow dryers do serious damage as well. Give your hair a break, try air drying your hair every other week, instead of daily or weekly. Stimulate your scalp by massaging it for a few minutes in each section until you have massaged your whole head. Hanging upside down from your bed, can get an instant blood flow to your scalp witch is great for hair growth, don't hang to long, you don't want to become dizzy, I would say 10 minutes a day should work.

Horse shampoo's

Horse shampoo's are becoming very popular amongst people who are trying to grow extremely long hair. Horse Shampoo can stop human hair from shedding and make it strong, thick and shiny, like a horse's mane. One very popular product is called Mega Tek Rebuilder. A very popular horse shampoo that humans use on their hair. Unlike human shampoo's, horse shampoo removes toxins and chemicals from your hair. An old school horse shampoo favorite was Main 'n tail back in the early 90's. People swear by these products. Mega tek can be bought online or at equine tack stores. Last but not least the most important thing you need to growing your hair long and luxurious is patience. You must be patient with your hair, it is a process, set a realistic goal for your hair growth, and have faith that it will grow, stay positive and good luck on your hair growth journey.

Cutting your hair does not help it grow, but you lose a ton of length as you let split ends "grow." If you do not trim your hair every 3 weeks to 3 months at the most, be prepared to naturally lose length as your split ends get split ends of their own and climb as high as they please. You don't have to take my advice, but as someone who had hair past her bum, I did nothing to my hair other than brush it. I have virgin hair, got no trims, put no heat on it, and regularly conditioned it for seven years; it slowly split and broke up to my belly button. It was so damaged and split that even after getting 3" and then 1" off there are still split ends that are roughly 1.5" long. So if your stylist does not tell you that you should get your hair trimmed every 3-6 weeks to maintain the same length and every 6 weeks to 3 months to grow it out, they have forgotten some very crucial information they had to know in the first place to get their license.

You are so welcome, many people get grossed out by urine, but it has so many cures and yes it's great for your hair and scalp and skin really, thanks for the comment :-)

Wow, this Hub is a revelation for me! Peruvians tout urine as a cure for almost everything, but I've never heard of it being used on hair. Very interesting. The horse mane and tail shampoo was a surprise, too! I guess horses do have beautiful hair, so why wouldn't it work for humans?? I do use olive oil and argan to condition my hair and scalp, though, and will look into the organic root stimulator. Thanks!
