How To Turn the No-Makeup, Makeup Look Into a Date Night Look
This is a follow-up Hub on my No-makeup, makeup Hub on how to turn the everyday makeup look into a date night look in a few simple steps.
The key to the date night look is awesome eyes. Using darker eye shadow colors than you would wear during the day, flawless eyeliner, and gorgeous lashes.
Since my no-makeup, makeup look used brown eye shadows, I am going to stick with that. Anyone can look amazing in brown eye shadow. Whether it is shimmery or matte is up to you!
Since you have been wearing your makeup all day, some of it probably came off or at least lost a little bit of its color. When switching over to a evening or night looks, it can be a good thing that some of your makeup has worn off.
Step One: Your Skin
Okay, so the first thing you do is reapply powder or foundation where you think you need it. If you see any redness, try dabbing a little bit of concealer or foundation to cover it up, then apply the powder to finish it off. For my nighttime looks, I like to add highlighters to my face. If you have an actual highlighting product, use that down the bridge of your nose, on your cupid's bow (the spot right above your lips), right above your cheekbones, and on your temples. The best way to figure out where to put the highlighter is to move your face around and see where the light hits your face and where your skin appears to be a glowing. If you don't have a highlighting product, you can use a shimmery pearl or off-white eye shadow instead. Next is blush; for my nighttime looks, I don't like having a lot of blush. I prefer the focus to be on my eyes. So I usually use a light pink or peachy blush and swirl it on the apples of my cheeks and blend back towards the side of my face and up to my temples. It is kind of the like making a C shape around your eye. I personally do not use bronzer, but if you do, apply it how you normally would.
Step Two: Your Eyebrows
If you already did your eyebrows for the no-makeup, makeup look, then just touch up where you need to. If you didn't, now is a good time to do so. Your eyebrows frame your face and are also a necessity for making your eyes stand out. So trim up and fill them in!
Step Three: Your Eyes
This is the most important part of the date night look. You can use whatever colors you want, but brown looks amazing on anyone so for generality, I will be explaining using brown eye shadows. There are also two different ways you can do this: You can use brown all over your eyelid and then define and deepen with an even darker brown (Look One), or you can use lighter nude colors or even a very light brown on your eyelid and then deepen with a dark brown (Look Two). Pictures on the side will show you the difference.
For Look One, start with a light brown to medium brown as a base. Blend it up a little ways past your crease to make sure there are no harsh edges. Then, with a darker brown (I like browns with golden flecks in them personally), go over the base. Blend this up a little farther than the last color you used to make sure it is flawless and smokey. If you want, you can concentrate the darker color in your outer v to deepen the look. If you don't know what your outer v is, it is about a quarter of the way up your crease and about a quarter of the way along your lash line on the outer part of your eye. After that, and this part is optional, sweep a little of the dark eye shadow along your bottom lash line for an even more dramatic effect. Next is eyeliner. You can either use a dark brown or a black. You can make it a thick line or a thin line. Wing or no wing, half way in, all the way in to your tear duct, it is up to you. Either way you are going to look gorgeous. You can also choose if you want to line the top and bottom of your eyes, I would probably line both though. Next is mascara, curl your lashes and put on your favorite mascara. You can even put on false eyelashes if you want even more drama from your eyes. The main star of this look, however, is the dark eye shadow, so try not to overdo it with the lashes.
For Look Two, you can start with a nude eye shadow, white, off-white, pearl, it doesn't really matter as long as it is a light color. Apply this all over your eyelid. Then take a medium brown and apply it to the outer third of your eye and in your crease, this is acting sort of like a base for the darker shadow. You can then take a dark brown and apply it to the outer third and into your crease, blending as you go to make a smokey look with no harsh lines. Keep blending until it is perfect and just the way you want it. Next is eyeliner, again for this look you can really do whatever you want with your eyeliner. You can use brown or black, make it thick or thin, winged or no wing, it is up to you. For this look, definitely line the top and bottom of your eyes. Next is mascara. You can have them be a little more dramatic for this look than the last look because you have a lighter color on your lid and you want to be able to see your lashes against this color. So curl your lashes and put on your falsies and black mascara!
Step Four: Your Lips
This is another very important step! What color your lips are is very important. Since the main focus of each of these looks is the eyes, you will want a nude or pink lipstick, unless you are brave enough to wear the deep red as the picture of Look Two shows. Add some gloss and you are done!
Since you are using dark eye shadows, it is possibly that there is fallout. You will most likely get some of the eye shadow below your eye and on your cheeks. What you can do is take a fan brush and either sweep off the eye shadow, or if you don't have a fan brush, then you can take your powder and powder brush and sweep the powder onto where the fallout is and it will disappear!
You're Done and Ready For Your Night Out!
That is the look completely finished! Enjoy your date!
