How painful is Botox?

Updated on May 1, 2011

pain or discomfort

I had an occasion to receive botox injections and restylane (though I was a bit apprehensive we all have fear of the unknown no matter how high our pain tolerance level is) I was rather anxious to do so and arrived early just so I would not miss the chance to plump up my lips ..

As it turns out ,I could have stayed home saved my money and just taken a hot serrated knife and sliced my lip with it..

I had been told it felt like a bee sting...WRONG!! I wasn't concerned that the pain would be more then I could bear ,such a slight needle nothing to be alarmed about..I had several root canals in my time and of course child birth as well..I once had my wisdom teeth pulled..I was expecting a little bit of pain..

However..it feels to me..my own opinion of course, that someone had snagged my upper lip with a fish hook and then tried to embed it further, changed their mind and decided to just work it out of my lip in a zig zag motion. Why did I feel like I didn't need the topical that would numb the pain somewhat? What was I thinking?

Excruciating pain ? No not really. Discomfort A lot more then that I would say as for real pain...well lets just say I think it could be right up there with the best of tools used for torture..

But in truth my wallet hurt me the most !!!

Amazing how so many use botox as if there isn't anything better. I don't know what it's like, and care less to try it but if anyone ask for an alternative solution it would be Recover; Seacret's botox-in-a-box.

Seems as though your encounter with Botox wasn't satisfactory. Since I'm 67, my vanity has pretty much gone by the wayside, so I don't think about cosmetic Botox, chemical peels, nips and tucks, etc.

However, I do know about medical Botox because I've been having it injected all around my eyes for nearly two decades now.(Writing as JayeWisdom, I wrote a hub about Blepharospasm that's on my site.)

It's really helped lessen the pain since doctors began using a topical cream on the injection sites before giving the shots. Of course, most people with disorders that require medical Botox are actually eager to get their injections so they can function. Makes all the difference in the world! Jaye
