How to Accessorize Gold Cocktail Dresses

Updated on November 17, 2009

Gold is not only a hard color to pull off wearing, but when you are able to pull off this color the next question remains, how do I accessorize my look? There are definitely many options you should stay away from and finding the perfect accessories can be extremely difficult.

You definitely do not want to match your accessories with your dress. Gold on gold is going to be a little too much. You do not want to take away from your dress by adding more gold. This will actually clash with your dress rather than make your look complete.

Also, stay away from silver accessories. I know the latest fashion trends are showing gold and silver accessories together, but that does not mean that gold dresses can be worn with silver jewelry. You will instead look like mismatched metals walking around at the cocktail event.

Pearls are a great and classy addition to a gold cocktail dress. Pearl earrings and a pearl necklace will add elegance and a classy look. Pearls will just about go with any type of outfit. They will also add a formal look to your dress.

Rhinestones and diamonds, real or fake, are another great jewel that will accessorize a gold cocktail dress. This choice is another easy way to look classy and elegant at any event. You can never go wrong with rhinestones or diamonds as these are jewels that can be worn by themselves.

If pearls and diamonds are too classy of a style for you and your style is more funky, black accessories will also go really well with a gold cocktail dress. Long black necklaces, bracelets and earrings will add a more funky look to your outfit, yet still remain chic as black is an elegant color.

Brown and gold bangles together will also add a more funky look to your dress. If you have a few different shades of brown bangles paired with a couple of gold ones mixed in you will accomplish a more funky look and won't look over the top in gold as discussed earlier. Deep browns are a great color to add with gold, and then you can even find a great pair of brown stilettos to match and you will look very chic.

You also want to try to stay away from over accessorizing your gold dress. Gold is an extremely dominant color so the fewer accessories to match with your dress the better. Too many accessories with this color will add clutter and you wont look as chic and elegant, but rather too over the top.

Wearing the choice of gold does limit the amount of choices you have when it comes to accessories, but however still leaves you with a few options that will not leave you with only wearing a gold dress. Remember if you want a classier look pearls, rhinestones, and diamonds are a great option. If your style tends to be on the funkier side black accessories are a great choice and will not clash with your dress. Brown bangles are a simple way to accessorize and are an easy way to accessorize.
