How to Create an Adorable No-Sew Tulle Tutu

Updated on June 15, 2012

What you will need:

  • Scissors
  • 2 different rolls of tulle (2 rolls of 25 foot long 6 inch wide tulle)
  • Elastic Headband in any color you choose (for best results do not use headbands that are attached together with metal clips)
  • Small bucket (optional)

Supplies

You will now begin to cut the tulle. You have different options at this point: If you want a long tutu you will need to cut the lengths of tulle about 26 inches long, for a medium length tutu 16 inches long. and for a short tutu cut at 12 inches long. (The measurements do NOT need to be exact.)

Take the elastic band and either pull it over your knee or over a small bucket. Fold the tulle in half and slip it under the band to form a loop at the top.

Slip your fingers through the loop and pull the ends through the loop. Pull them tight to hold the tulle onto the band. Repeat this step with the same color. You will then have a 2 strips of the same color tulle on the band. Next take the other color and create the loop and pull through. Repeat this step again with the same color. Now alternate the colors in the same pattern until the whole band is covered. (Make sure you are pulling them tight!)

When the whole band is covered you may remove the tutu from your knee or the bucket. Now fluff the tutu and ENJOY watching the wearer of your tutu fall in love!

What an adorable idea. My daughter would have loved this as a child. I will most certainly pass this on to my friends with young children.
