When it comes to eye makeup, blue is the new black. Not that the original grey Smokey eye look will ever go out of fashion, but it has become quite passé now. The blue Smokey eye look is more vibrant and fashionably edgy. It looks good on most skin tones and is perfect for a night about town. Experiment with different shades of blue eyeshadow and try out different blue eyeshadow looks. For starters, here are a few easy steps to help you get the electric blue Smokey eyes look with ease.

The first step to getting your eye makeup right is to create an even, flawless base. Over here, your base is your eyelids. To conceal blemishes and even-out crinkles, apply an eyeshadow primer and spread it uniformly over your entire eyelid.

The next step is to brush on a white eyeshadow base. This is necessary since white eyeshadow will help emphasize the colour and brightness of the blue eyeshadow that will be applied later on. Brush on white eyeshadow not just on your eyelids, but all the way up to your brow bone. Blend the eyeshadow well so that there are no blotches.

Once done, the next step is to apply on some glittering sliver eyeshadow. You could select a shimmering silver shade of your choice from Maybelline’s Diamond Glow Palette Grey – Pink Eyeshadow Range. Use a flat shader brush to apply silver eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes. Start from where your inner tear ducts are and cover one-third of your eyelids. Also apply sliver eyeshadow on the region surrounding your inner tear ducts. Dab off excess eyeshadow using clean tissues.

Now, select an electric blue eyeshadow shade and, using the same brush, apply it on the center of your eyelid. Spread it till it almost reaches the outer corner of your eyes. Apply some of the blue eyeshadow along your lower lash line as well.

To add dimension to your blue Smokey eye look, apply dark green eyeshadow on the outer corners of your eyes. Now, blend the three shades together using a sponge tip applicator. Put in a bit of effort here and ensure that the shades blend into each other well so that they don’t appear to exist in patches.

To complete your blue Smokey eyes look, line your upper and lower lash lines with a thick line of bright blue kajal. Use a water-proof kohl pencil for the same. Lastly, apply two coats of dark, water-proof mascara on your lashes.

There! Your Electric blue Smokey eyes look is complete. Now, slip on a shimmery top, dark denim pants and sky-high heels. You’re ready for a night of dancing and club hopping!

@FlourishAnyway: Thanks for stopping by. Yes, the blue smokey eyes look is quite attractive. It's a new take on the black smokey eyes look, but looks just as sultry and intense.

I quite like this look, though may have to try a shimmery brown or purple as I have green eyes! Voted beautiful.

@DDE - Thanks for your kind words. Yes, this look is very pretty and not at all hard to achieve!

@ Suzanne Day: You have green eyes! Wow. Apologies for the over-the-top excitement but I think green eyes are very pretty. Yes, a purple smokey eyes look would look great on you. Do try it out. :)

Thanks Cherylann. Green eyes are OK until you get older and can see brown sun damaged spots in them very clearly (very embarrassing). Then there's the matter of eyeshadow being very hard to get right - I find browns and pinks offer the best natural kind of look, while purple is for exciting evenings. But definitely blue is reserved for other coloured eyes because it just doesn't look right with green eyes...

Oh, my, you make it seem so simple and then when I try - it is a disaster! Beautiful hub. Why is it purple is a universal color for eye shadow? Is this my own perception or is it true? I have to disagree with Suzanne Day, I think purple is for every day - morning to evening. Just darken it up a bit for evening and perhaps add more highlights.

@Suzanne Day: Oh oh, I didn't know that happened. When it comes to eyeshadows though, green-eyed goddesses (in spite of the sunspot revelation, I still hold on to my awe for green eyes) have lots of options to choose from. Apart from browns and pinks, you could try taupe, silver, bronze, gold and every shade of purple. Besides, the original grey smokey eyes look looks best on green eyes, hands down. Thanks for your engaging comment. :)

@ GmaGoldie: Thanks for stopping by. Well, most of these makeup looks can be mastered with a bit of practice. Trail and error, though a tad tedious, will help you understand tweaks and changes that you need to make in order for the style or look to suit your eye and skin colour. And yes, I agree with your thoughts on purple eyeshadow. It is indeed quite a versatile colour, suitable for many occasion. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. It is much appreciated. :)
