How to Look Good in Ugly Clothes

Updated on July 6, 2013

One should not worry with how they look on the outside. But sometimes, it feels so good to look nice, right? So when you think that what you’re wearing is ugly on you, don’t worry because this article has some quick-fix tips on this.

When we’re trapped in a situation and time that we really don't have a choice not to wear those clothes we think doesn’t fit nor don’t look good on us, ugly clothes on our closet can be made trendy with just little adjustments.

Reason is that, we don't have new to wear or that's the only one that could fit the occasion we're attending. We also don't want to spend for new clothes that can definitely eat our budget that’s why we're just going to make the best of what we have.

De-cluttering our wardrobe full of unused clothes sometimes trigger our creativity to revamp it and even make it look so good that even your crush next door will notice it. Even those clothes that seems "ugly" to you can be turned into a beautiful dress.

All you need is something glittery and shiny - and no, I don't mean silver dusts.

When we buy clothes, most of us tend to look for something on the latest trend not thinking that this could be out of style next summer.

Or we choose something 'bad' out of impulse buying or just plain cheap because it's half the price off.

So how do you make yourself look good in ugly clothes? Here are some simple ways to revamp that 'ugly' ones to make it look nice and beautiful.

1. Accessorize your dress

Choose accessories that match the style and color of your dress; accessories like necklace, bracelets, earrings and belts. But don't overdo it, like you're going to wear it all. Just choose one or two to make it look very elegant and simple. When you overdo your accessories, you might get the impression from other people that you look like an accessory stand.

2. Match it with your bag

Your clothes will even look better when you have a bag matched to it. If you're wearing formal blouse, then don't pick a sling plastic or cotton bags. Wear it with a leather bag instead.

3. Wear the right kind of shoes

Wearing the right shoes will definitely enhance your looks. It will also make you confident wearing the clothes you think is ugly on you. Wear high heels if possible for a formal attire. I choose not to wear flats and choose heels instead because it makes me even look nicer and more professional.

4. Pair it with the right color or types of pants or jeans

If you’re wearing an 'ugly' blouse, in order to make it look better, pair it with the right color or type of pants or jeans. White is something pretty and elegant and it looks good on just any color or your blouse.

5. Wear blazers or jackets

Blazers and jackets is a cute alternative way when you don’t have time to accessorize your dress or don’t have time to redesign it. You could wear anything and blazers or jackets will the rest for you.

6. Cut and Shape it!

Sometimes, all we need is a pair of scissors to cut those extra dull designs on clothes. One time, I had this dress which I think I am not comfortable wearing because it has garters on below and the user looks like pregnant. So I cut the garter and just like that, I already wore it on our party and never thought that all my friends love it.

7. Be clean and neat on your hair and have some make-up.

It doesn’t have to be on full make-up, just light fixtures on your face and lips. Have you ever noticed that models or celebrities can just wear anything and then still looks good? It's because they have are neat to look at. Sometimes, your hair and face can mirror your overall image.

8. Be confident when you walk

Walk as if you're walking on a runway. Don’t mind other people looking at you and be confident on the way you wear that dress our blouse. Remember, ugliness is on your mind only. Walk straight and don't curl you’re back as if you're hiding your clothes or something that you don’t want other people to see.

Try these six simple steps on how to fix yourself to look good on clothes that you think were 'ugly'. When there's confidence and poise, everything in your looks would follow.

Sometimes, it’s all in our mind and we think too much because we’re over-conscious of how we look. Just be yourself and make people believe that what you’re wearing is the most beautiful one on your closet.

That is so true. If you wear one item that is ugly and you pair that with an item of the same color and add some glitz then that will make the clothing stand out. Great article.

Fun Hub!! I love going into my closet and matching up items I've never thought of putting together before. It makes me feel like I just went shopping. I like the tip to match a purse to the color your wearing if possible. It will give a more polished look for sure with minimal effort. Voted up and awesome!
