How to achieve long healthy hair

Patience is key to achieving long healthy hair. Some can grow out their hair faster than others due to genetics and other factors. Having a hair routine in place using these tips will help you achieve this.

1. Dry your hair naturally and avoid heat styling

Styling your hair with heat causes split ends, dry hair and hair breakage. It is a good idea to limit heat styling to once a week. It is even better if you can go months without heat. Always use a heat protectant to reduce hair damage.

2. Massage scalp and ends with Extra Virgin Olive Oil

If you are looking for a natural hot oil treatment, heat up a few drops of extra virgin olive oil in the microwave for 20 seconds. Massage oil onto scalp and ends. Wrap your hair with saran wrap and wash out the oil using shampoo and conditioner. Extra Virgin Olive Oil nourishes the hair and your hair will feel so soft. It contains biotin and vitamins A, E, D and K which aid hair growth and circulate the scalp.

3. Live a healthy lifestyle

Having a healthy diet and exercising regularly is key to hair growth. Sometimes you are not getting enough of the nutrients and vitamins that your hair and body needs. Therefore, you may want to take supplements to help your hair grow. For example, supplements that contain Biotin and Silica. Ensure that the supplements you buy are safe to use and remember that supplements are not a replacement for a healthy diet.

4. Get your hair trimmed regularly

Trimming your hair does not make your hair grow. Trimming your hair only gets rid of your dry, split ends. Your hair becomes easier to style as your ends feel lighter, look healthier and feel softer. Hairdressers state that you should get your hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks. But if you are trying to grow out your hair, you can get your hair trimmed every 3-6 months. This all depends on the condition of your hair, how well you have kept your hair healthy and whether or not you have split ends.

5. Wash your hair with shampoo every other day

Shampoo strips out your natural oils. It contains chemicals that are too harsh for your scalp. It is a good idea to use an organic shampoo or no shampoo at all. Using shampoo every other day will give your scalp a chance to produce its natural oils to condition hair and keep hair healthy. If you can go more than two days without using shampoo, that's even better. You can also wash your hair with water in between.

6. Do not brush your hair when wet and tie your hair loosely in a ponytail

A tight ponytail and brushing wet hair causes hair strands to stretch, fall out and break easily. It is better to brush your hair when it is eighty percent dry and use a wide tooth comb instead. Start combing your hair from the bottom and work your way up to gently comb out your tangles.
