When hair feels dry and lifeless, a good conditioning hair mask will go a long way. I personally prefer to stay away from as many chemicals as I can, which is why I condition my hair with products that I can easily find in my kitchen. Here’s a list of recipes that will show you how to condition your hair naturally (and very inexpensively).

Aloe Vera hair mask

You will need:

  • 2 or 3 leaves of aloe vera
  • Knife
  • Blender
  • Shower cap

Process:

  1. With a knife cut the gel from the aloe vera’s leaves and blend it until it becomes puree. You do not need to use any water.
  2. Apply to clean hair and massage all over hair from root to tip.
  3. Put on a shower cap to maintain heat.
  4. Leave on for 30 min.
  5. Rinse

Beer hair mask

*Word of caution: only use this mask when you don’t plan on going out since it will leave your hair smelling like beer for a while.

You will need:

  • ½ cup of water
  • ½ of beer

Process:

  1. Mix water and beer
  2. Apply to clean hair and leave on for 2 -3 minutes.
  3. Rinse.

Bananas and lemons hair mask

You will need:

  • 1 banana
  • 2 lemons
  • 5 tbs. of honey

Process:

  1. Liquefy the banana
  2. Add the juice of 2 lemons and the honey
  3. Massage into hair using your fingertips.
  4. Leave on for 2 hours
  5. Rinse with cold water

Almond oil and water

You will need:

  • 100 ml of almond oil
  • 50 ml of warm water

Process:

  1. Mix almond oil and water
  2. Apply to hair
  3. Leave on for 20-30 min.
  4. Wash hair. You may use this treatment twice a week.

Coconut oil and lemon

Coconut oil stimulates hair growth and promotes strong and healthy hair.

You will need:

  • Coconut oil
  • Lemon

Process:

  1. Melt the oil by placing it in a glass container, and then placing the glass container in hot water. Do not use the microwave to melt the oil.
  2. Add a few drops of lemon juice
  3. Massage into hair and scalp
  4. Leave on for 2 hours
  5. Rinse

Roses and almond oil

You will need:

  • ½ cup of rose petals
  • 1 tbs. of almond oil
  • 1 cup of hot water

Process:

  1. Boil water and add rose petals
  2. Add almond oil and blend with the water and petals
  3. Apply to hair
  4. Leave on for 20 min.

Olive oil and rosemary

You will need:

  • ¾ cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup of dried rosemary leaves

Process:

  1. Place the oil and rosemary leaves in a pot
  2. Warm up the oil in the stove. This shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes.
  3. Take pot out away from the stove and remove rosemary leaves using a sieve.
  4. Wait until oil is at a temperature you can tolerate on your head.
  5. Cover hair with oil from root to tips
  6. Put on a shower cap
  7. Leave on for 20 min.
  8. Wash hair.

Olive oil hair mask

You will need:

  • Olive oil

Process:

  1. Apply the olive oil with your fingertips to the tips of your hair. If your hair is really dry, you may also want to apply the oil to your scalp. However, if your hair is greasy, do not apply any oil to the scalp.
  2. Put on a shower cap
  3. Leave on for 20-30 min.
  4. Wash hair

Avocado and yogurt

You will need:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 tbs of natural, unsweetened yogurt

Process:

  1. Liquefy the avocado until it forms a paste
  2. Add the yogurt
  3. Blend again until you have a smooth mixture
  4. Massage into hair from root to tip.
  5. Leave on 10-15 minutes
  6. Before removing with water, squeeze out any excess of mask with your hands. This will make rinsing easier.

Honey and Water

You will need:

  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 tbs. of honey

Process:

  1. Boil water
  2. mix in honey and stir until dissolved
  3. Wait until water cools down and pour down on hair after shower
  4. Style as usual. It will leave your hair soft and smelling great!

Coconut milk and avocado

Process:

  1. Blend the milk and avocado until it forms a smooth mixture
  2. Massage into hair
  3. Leave on for 15 minutes
  4. Wash hair
