How to choose the right shoes for your toddler

Updated on September 1, 2012

A nice pair of shoes is one of the most important things your toddler needs. It doesn’t only offer your kids protection from dirt and things that might hurt it also a good complement to your little kid’s cuteness. It is indeed nice to see a toddler wearing shoes especially when you go to the malls or attend various occasions. But shoes are costly these days. But keep in mind that the best ones will support him well as he masters physical skills such as jumping, running and balance, which are all vital on your toddler’s growth and development. Moreover, engaging physical activities will be a sort of an exercise for him to be in top shape. So it is essential that your toddler wears a shoe anytime, for this will serve him in good stead at all times.

Here are the things you need to ask before purchasing shoes for your toddlers:

  • Is it the right size? Walking in big shoes may impinge on a toddler’s posture and may develop an appalling habit (especially with the way he flexes his feet) which he will keep for the rest of his life.

  • Are the soles flexible or not? The children’s comfort is always essential.

  • Are the materials breathable and comfortable? The shoes you should buy must be likened to a well-ventilated abode, so that your kid’s feet will not perspire and to avoid uneasiness and discomfort.

  • Is there arch support? Keep in mind that the arch support will ensure added safety to your toddler.

  • Are they easy to put on by your little kid by himself? If it takes a long while for your kids to wear his shoes this will surely cause some discomfort.

  • If in case there are straps, is there enough room around the ankles?

  • What color, style and design of shoes are well suited for your toddler? Aside from comfort of course you may opt for shoes that make your toddler standout and look very cute.

  • When it comes to price I suggest that you opt for something that you can truly afford. Do not break the bank besides your young kids tend to grow during their early years and you should keep this into your mind.
