Remove Your Acne Scars in Your Kitchen- Home Remedies

Updated on August 24, 2018

Why we should use natural products?

As boys and girls enter the teenage, most of them suffer from acne which is the most common skin disorder of this age. Assume, after so many hits and misses and with age the problem of acne disappears. But, now a new enemy lingers on your face and these are the marks left by acne after healing. And then young boys and girls opt for some of the not so good cosmetic creams which boast of removing the scars of your war with acne. These products are not in line with the natural process and may endanger the natural softness and the glow of your face skin. Here, I am not completely against the cosmetic products. This article is an attempt to know and use the benefits of natural products available near us to remove the acne scars.

What causes acne scars?

Acne scars are actually the response of our body to the injury which is caused by acne lesions. These lesions are inflammatory and may be more severe if deeper in the skin. In other words, the inflamed blemishes are the result of excessive oil production, dead cells and free radicals. These impurities are filled in the pores, and this is the reason of swelling of acne. Further, the swelling causes the follicle walls connected to the dermis to break and then the impurities comes into the dermis which in turn breaks the healthy skin tissues. This little but dangerous process sometimes causes severe scar on our faces.

Best home remedies to remove scars

Before starting with home remedies, I must tell you the most important fact. These home remedies are inexpensive and cannot compare with the plastic surgery or any other cosmetic treatment. These home remedies are definitely effective but take a little time to show the results unlike the cosmetic treatment. Further, these home remedies can be tried at home and has no side effects. In the next section, there are some of the best home remedies to remove scars.

Fresh lemon or its juice is one of the most commonly used natural products which have many options to be used in beautification. Lemon juice is natural bleaching agent, anti bacterial and acidic so helps in removing the impurities out of the skin. Further, it also helps to get rid of scars left by acne and pimples. Lemon juice can be used in many ways. Its use is very simple, just slice a lemon into two halves, then apply the juice with two three drops of rose water over your face gently with cotton ball. Leave it for 40-45 minutes and then wash with cold water. Apply this therapy twice a day to see good results. If there is a scarcity of time, you can apply the combination of lemon juice and rose water before going to sleep. Leave it overnight and then wash with cold water in the morning. Remember, lemon juice is acidic in nature so do not use plain lemon on your face. Further, you can add a few drops of glycerin to lemon juice and then apply it on the face. It will also remarkably reduce the signs of scars.

Tomatoes are rich in vitamin A and this vitamin helps in the nourishment of skin and also rejuvenates it. Vitamin A is very helpful in the healing process with quick skin growth and therefore tomato helps in removing the scars. You don’t have to do some complex actions to use this useful vegetable. Just take a tomato and slice it to make a pulp. Apply this pulp on your face and leave it for more than 30-45 minutes. Thereafter wash your face with mild warm water. For better results, I have another method to use tomato to remove scars. Take two tomatoes and avocados or cucumbers. Grind them thoroughly to make a heavy paste. Apply this paste on your face like a face mask and leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash with lukewarm water. Apply the second method twice a week to get better results.

Baking soda

It is the least time taking home remedy with equal benefits. Baking soda is natural exfoliator and also a good cleaning agent. It helps in healing the scar tissue gradually layer by layer with cleaning of dead cells. Simply, take some baking soda and water in the ration of 1:2. Make a light paste of it and then apply it on the scar gently with a cotton ball. Leave it for one minute and they rinse it off with cold water. Remember not to apply the paste vigorously on the face as it may give rise to some more blemishes on your face. Apply it for twice a week only.

Sandalwood also helps us in getting over scars. Its use is very simple and can be used by rubbing gently with milk or rose water on the scars. Leave it for an hour before washing with cold water. If you cannot take out time to use this. You can apply this on your face before going to sleep and then wash with cold water in the morning.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is the probably the most used natural product in cosmetic goods. It can be used in almost all the beautification process. Aloe vera is very good to ensure speedy growth of our skin with the formation of new cells due to rich blend of vitamins and minerals (essential for skin nourishment). These new cells take the place of scar tissues and hence scars fades away from the skin. Break a leaf of the aloe vera plant and rub on the affected area gently for 5 minutes. Leave it for 20 minutes and then wash with a cleanser. Do this daily to get better results.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E, caprylic and capric acid with good concentration of lauric. All these nutrients makes it a good, I would say an excellent option to remove the signs of scars. Massage with coconut oil for 2-3 minutes daily with a frequency of 4-5 times. It will definitely give you desired results within couple of weeks.

Honey is one of the excellent anti bacterial natural product. It is rich in mineral like magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium chlorine, sulphur and iron. All these mineral are vital for the healthy growth of skin tissues. It helps in cleaning of free radicals which are also responsible for acne. Simply, rub or gently massage raw honey on the scars twice daily and then wash with cold water. The anti bacterial property of honey heals the scar tissues and promotes the growth of new cells by clearing free radicals. Remember, not to use honey if you have oily skin.

We all know the soothing effect of potato on our eyes. This remarkable vegetable is good for our skin also to remove the signs of scars and other marks. Potato is rich in phosphorus, sulphur, potassium and vitamin C. Potato can be used in many ways to remove the scars. You can just rub the sliced potato pieces and leave it for 20 minutes, then wash with cold water. Or, make a paste of potato by grinding. Apply it on the whole face if you want or on the affected area with a cotton ball. Leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water. The best way to harness the benefits of scar removing property of potato requires some other ingredients. Take a medium size potato, boil it and then mash it with its skin. Add two teaspoonful of milk and two teaspoonful of coconut oil. Mix all these thoroughly to make a paste. Apply this paste on your whole face and leave it for 20 minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This method not only removes scars but also clear the darkness under the eyes with a glowing face. Apply this twice a week to remove the scars soon.

These home remedies are practiced for centuries or we can say it is old granny ideas to heal the body with nature. Of course, some of the scars may take some time to heal with these natural home remedies in comparison with other over the counter cosmetic products. Treatment with natural products available at home is best as these products spontaneously align with the process of body without causing any adverse effects.

Some common tips to take care of scars

  • Use sunscreen whenever you are going out in the sun. Sunlight darkens the scars as well as slows down the process of healing. The ultra violet rays present in the sunlight stimulates the cells responsible for pigmentation and leads to discoloration.
  • Exfoliate daily to remove the dead skin on the scars naturally. As the dead skin or cells are removed new cells and skin takes place to remove the signs of scars. You can use your regular face wash to exfoliate gently.
  • Do not use abrasive scrubs for your skin, if you have scars and marks on your face. These scrubs sometimes aggravate the scar tissues
  • To avoid acne scars, don’t squeeze the pimples. The pus present in the pimple may get into the skin to further damage the skin's natural collagen. Scars are naturally collagen, a process of the body to heal scars naturally. Therefore, never squeeze or puncture the pimples.
  • Drink sufficient water and have fresh fruits to keep your skin healthy, glowing and hydrated. Water clears the toxins out of the body and helps in maintaining a healthy skin. Fruits have all the natural mineral and nutrients which are helpful in healing the scar tissues.
  • Use coconut oil and neem leaves juice. Mix them with equal quantity and regularly apply on affected areas to lighten the scar marks. This remedy is to be used on daily basis to get better results.

These are the natural remedies that worked for me:

Honey and cinnamon mask - This is great for preventing breakouts as they both have anti-inflammatory properties and for lightening scars. You will have to look for different guides on how to mix them though as cinnamon can be harsh on the skin if applied too much, even with the honey! My mixture was 1:3, so you can try that too.

Lemon juice - Also extremely harsh on the skin if used alone so dilute it in water first.

Apple cider vinegar - Dilute it well in water. The more sensitive your skin is, the higher the ratio should be so as not to irritate it any further. You can use this as a toner or simply as a drink! It will help fight acne from the inside.

For those who like to use make-up, I would suggest switching to olive oil as a make-up remover instead of an expensive product. Olive oil is great for helping diminish acne scars and it moisturizes well.

I would recommend checking out as its a great resource and has a really high quality guide for how to clear up acne (it worked for me!) and it’s just a matter of figuring out what works more for you.

Also.. ice, ice, ice, ice. I always rub ice on my face before washing my face (both morning and night). It feels great and is a wonder for redness as well.

      It is really informative.

Sometimes I felt very confused after reading reviews of same topic in different sites. I couldn’t figure out whether the information shared are legitimate or not. Most of the sites are just promoting one or two surgeons and clinics. Recently for my sister’s eye lift surgery I have gone through many blogs to know the procedure but I got only few sites like “goodsurgeonbadsurgeon”,”realself” where they share photos of surgery and their experience. This will help us to get clear picture.

Grab a clove of garlic and rub him your problem areas on the face. Do this while 2-3 days and baskets will disappear without leaving marks.

Make a mask of red pulp, cucumber, honey and lime juice. Pamper your face with it and hold it an hour. Rinse with warm milk and noticed results after 3-4 reps.

In a small bowl, warm water, dissolve an aspirin. Then add grated radish, lemon juice and a pinch of cinnamon. Apply the resulting paste on the problem areas, then rinse.
