I Love Agate Bracelets Garnet Handmade and More! Chan Luu's New Fashion Statement
We saw them on models donning bikinis on Sports Illustrated. Nordstrom's sold out. Zappos has them. Sundance may have been the first to showcase them. Men wear them. And the list of celebrities wearing them is almost endless. They are the epidemy of fashion today. They add the final touch to a casual outfit. Sometimes made of fine silver, always made with leather. It is a certain look that bloggers brag out - how to get the "look". What is this fashion look we are in need of capturing that this item epitomizes? The everyday effortless look. What are they? Wrap bracelets by an artist from

We have all heard about the females who love shoes. The Jessica Parkers of the world and their shoe affliction. An addiction to hoarding countless shoes that for most people amount to a week's net pay. Beautiful heeled shoes that transform the ordinary into the extraordinary princess. Yes, even fairy tales abound with the love of the shoes (remember the fabled glass slipper? - do shoes really lead to prince charming?).
Yet, my fascination is never about shoes (albeit no outfit is complete without the perfect shoes - must be the right height heel and the right color). For you see I could love in my Sperry topsiders (and I have worn the soles right through several pairs) and I will try to wear my Sperry's even when not appropriate or the right color and loving husband reminds me my shoes do not match.
So what is this self programmed fashion-Esta's focus? For those who know my hubs, it is jewelry - I love jewelry especially bracelets.
While in my youth I chased all the shiny fashion trends from the 1980s gotta have gold to the early 2000s where silver was all the rage to today's fashion trend of celebrating the casual style. So it should come as no surprise when I first laid eyes upon the Sundance Catalog, the jewelry mesmerized me and then I stopped dead in my tracks - the wrap bracelets but not just any wrap bracelet - the wrap bracelet done in an elegant new style, agate stones surrounded by leather and sometimes brass.
I was fully immersed. These tiny baubles for the wrist consumed me. I had to had one. Oh, but which one?! I was in love with everything Chan Luu crafted.
I ended up with the green agate although the moonstone and the lapis still continue to pull at my heart.

Interview with Chan Luu
"Chan Luu is CEO of Chan Luu, Inc. Born and raised in Vietnam, Luu came to the USA for college in Boston before launching herself as a designer of jewelry and clothing in Los Angeles. Her designs are now carried by stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Banana Republic, as well as in high-end stores in London and Japan. We met with Chan Luu in L.A. to discuss entrepreneurship in the design business, how she combines creativity with bottom-line thinking, and the challenges of maintaining a successful enterprise in the fashion world."
The Effortless Every Day Look with Chan Luu
The effortless every day look is hand crafted by a designed from Vietnam named Chan Luu, shipped from Los Angeles,California (very appropriate with all the celebrities clamoring for them).
Her place of birth and her life story offer a unique insight to a fashion designer who is to be admired for both her craft but also her determination.
She always was attracted to form. Amazingly, the idea for the wrap bracelet came when she was convalescing with a torn ligament from a freak ski accident. She crafted the now famous bracelet because this tiny, brilliant, athletic woman was bored!
Her parents were successful merchants but the zig zags of her life ultimately lead her from Vietnam to Boston and later to LA and ultimately to fashion design. And yes, like Dell and Mattell and many other successful entrepreneurs before her - her first studio was the proverbial garage!
Saigon - Now Called Ho Chi Minh City
Chan Luu is said to have been born and raised in Nha Trang but traveled frequently to Saigon, which is now known today as Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh is the largest city in Vietnam and is said to be the 132nd most expensive cities in the world. Imagine a city with a population of 9 million.
If we look on a map and pin each city, we will see that the city where Chan Luu grew up was on the coastline of South China Sea. Remember a "sea" is a body of salt water, a special body of the ocean in the fact that the sea is surrounded in part by land. It is not quite a gulf but a protected area offering a safer harbor than the open coastline of the ocean.

All About Agate - The Stones In the Wrap Bracelets
Agate is a semi precious stone that is often used in Chan Luu's bracelets. The colors, like all things from Mother Nature, are unique and variety. The diversity of colors is limitless. I have the green agate bracelet and gave that same bracelet to five different people this past Christmas. I feel it is the perfect bracelet with blue jeans. Furthermore, the new trend with the fashionable holy jeans (as shown in the first photo in this hub), is ideally suited for this piece of jewelry. And yes, you must have the right bracelet for each and every outfit! Even holy blue jeans!
Leather Wrap Bracelet Hot Fashion Trend for Men
Leather Wrap Bracelet Hot Fashion Trend for Men
Nothing is hotter than a man well dressed complete with all the details. In my youth, the cuff link was the status symbol. And now, for men, the new status symbol is clearly the Chan Luu leather wrapped bracelets.
Look at the video if you don't believe me. Look at the photos of the many celebrities donning these manly bracelets.
And yes, my Grandfather would have stated that we are returning to the Neanderthals but if that is true, we are doing it with style. These bracelets have an unmistakably earthliest that sets them apart.

Care of Your Wrap Bracelet
Oh, so you see a surfer and think, aha! My Chan Luu bracelet is great for the water! Wrong! Proper care of your bracelet would be to keep it away from the water.
You can spot clean as needed. For the sterling silver engraved buttons, you can clean with sterling silver polishing cloth or a tiny dab of sterling silver liquid solution.
In order to accommodate my active lifestyle, I carry a silk drawstring bag to store my bracelets when I am exercising or swimming.

Chan Luu Sets a New Fashion Standard
Chan Luu has set forth a brand new fashion standard. From her leather wrapped bracelets to the cashmere scarves, our clothing is becoming more distinctive and yet more comfortable. Interestingly, her philosophy on life is very similar. For you see, this top designer is the real deal. A beautiful woman both inside and out. An artist who has re crafted the gifts from the earth for us to enjoy right on our wrists.
The latest item I have found from her is the knotted bracelet which add a little bit more interest. Chan Luu has taken bracelets to a whole new level and deserves all the recognition she has rightfully received.
Listen closely to her personal lifestyle and seek not just her fashion style but try to incorporate a part of her into your life's well being.
For you see, she is truly the whole package. A fashionista, a jewelry artisan, a lady who uses the time in her life to enjoy the beauty of poetry, music and art!
"I play one hour on the piano a day. I make sure that two hours before I go to bed I turn off my computer and read French poetry before I go to bed. Anything tech-related that stimulates my brain, I shut it off. And I love to take hot baths. That's how I live my life. I really believe your happiness is in your own hands. If I'm not happy, I exude nothing but toxic energy around me.
Do you own or will you own a Chan Luu bracelet?
Advice from Chan Luu
"If you don’t believe in yourself, it is very hard to make it happen. I don’t know how other people think, but if I want to do something, I read up about it. Being resourceful will help. Being relentless is the most important quality. I am relentless about how I approach every project; I won’t back down because my project meets challenges. Your inspiration should be honest. Try not to be a copy cat—it’s an “inspiration freezer,” regardless of how big the knock-off market is. Creating is like exercising. The more you do, the more you could do. Be proactive, on your creative journey, there will be many beautiful surprises coming your way."
Writers, artisans, learners of life, take heed, let me repeat this last prophetic phrase from Chan Luu:
"Creating is like exercising. The more you do, the more you could do. Be proactive, on your creative journey, there will be many beautiful surprises coming your way."
