Invicta Ceramics Automatic Chronograph Swiss Watch Review
Though Invicta flirted with ceramics in Force, Lupah, Invicta II, and other collections, it's the dedicated Ceramics line that gives this high-tech material a place to really determine the spirit and the form of the watches. Ceramics is a small but balanced collection that holds its own by offering men's and ladies water resistant chronographs.
The case, the bracelet, and the dial, are all made of the eponymous material, making the watches unusually durable and scratch (or any other damage) proof.
Besides the chronograph, complications include a date, located between three and four o'clock, and a day of the week dial at six o'clock – a mechanical complication rarely used by Invicta, revealing the classic origin of this collection.
Ceramic Swiss Chrono, the only line in the collection currently in production, features a classic two-tone configuration: the central band locked within the bracelet and the bezel are of one color, while the rest of the bracelet and the case are of another. Colors include black, white and military blue for men and women, and pastel pink, blue, and more white exclusively for the ladies.
The wavy shape of the bracelets and the bezels give this collection a somewhat predatory look. Still, the functionally designed crown and pushers reveal that these are utility watches with some unusual aesthetic encroachments – and not the other way around.
Men's Ceramics, 43mm in diameter and
100 meters water resistant, can serve as general utility sports
watches. The specifications (including the Tritnite luminous layer
covering the hands and marking the indexes) allow it to function as a
diver's timer, while dial design visuals display some clear racing
Lady Ceramic Swiss offers smaller timepieces (35 mm) that either replicate the basic men's design, or offer something different in terms of color. The blue and the pink versions are the latter, “girly” watches. My favorite, however, is the neutral single tone white piece: it has its own character, projects clarity, and emits force despite the reduced size.
