Trendy Abaya Fashion with PHOTOGRAPHS of Beautiful Gowns with Hijabs

Updated on April 23, 2018

Abaya is a long floor length gown or cloak which Muslim women wear on top of their regular clothing when going outdoors for any purpose. Abaya gowns are worn with scarves which are referred to as hijab which are wrapped around the head covering the hair and neck and bosom. The main purpose behind wearing such over gown is to protect ones modesty by hiding the womanly curves. A Muslim woman should only broadcast to the outside world her face and her hands from the wrist to the fingertips.

Traditionally women would wear abaya gowns in dark colours and mostly in black. However, as with everything else, abaya gowns also underwent its own kind of revolution and now women can be seen wearing abayas in different cuts, designs, colours and materials. Some of these long gowns tend to be more like a body hugging dress (like a maxi dress) and seems to have reformed from its original idea of covering and hiding the contours of the female body. However, there are beautiful abaya designs and styles in loose fits as well. In the Arab region and the Middle East abaya is widely worn and fashion designers are constantly coming up with beautiful new deigns in abaya to keep up with the fashion trend.

Abayas come in solid colours as well as patterns. Different solid colours are also strategically sewn together to create unique abaya dresses. Some abayas have layering while others come in two parts. Broaches and other accessories are usually used to embellish the abaya. Abayas can be flowy made of lightweight materials as well as heavy materials. Some abayas have belts and sashes. The sleeves of these long Islamic gowns are always long but they some of them have arm hugging sleeves while some have belle sleeves. In recent trend it can be seen that prints are being used in both abayas and hijabs.

As can be seen from all these photographs of trendy and fashionable abayas that they can cater to any woman's preference. Younger women who wear abaya seems to prefer gown-style or figure hugging abayas while the older generation tends to prefer the more comfortable and loose styles. That does not mean that young women do not wear loose kaftan style abayas or that the senior Muslim ladies do not wear gown type or form fitting abayas. Wearing hijab and abaya in Islam is a choice and different ladies opt for different styles and designs.

I agree when you say, ..that wearing the hijab is a cchioe.., and ..it’s a question of a woman’s rights to live freely and dress, however she wants. And Hijab for me is a part of who I am. But, the cchioe is based on the belief that hijab is part of an obligatory of shari'a islam. When the cchioe is based on this belief, truly the cchioe is part of ibadah. So, wearing hijab or niqab is not just the cchioe, but it is an obedience form from the abid to God.While this obligation is very debatable and very controversial in fuqaha circle. So, do not be surprised, when some Muslim is not agree with this wearing hijab, because they belief that hijab is not part of shari'a islam. From this, I think, wearing or not wearing hijab is not just a cchioe. But, mainly is the belief that produce the cchioe. Thanks

In Canada, this big and beautiful crontuy people are allowed the freedom to wear what pleases them, this goes for anyperson on the street male or female. We accommodate other people from many lands, cultures and languages.I, myself wear the hijab allam duallah and I have the freedom here to do so, why is such a small piece of cloth demanded such attention. In a way it is good. The catholic church it was many years ago compulsory to wear a scarf but the church changed the rules, when I was little the church taught us Latin this they dropped to perhaps to make it easy for the people ?Other people from other lands wear many different and strange items of clothing. But the hijab, Niqab and Burqa are debated about . I see no harm in that but this suject is not as important than poverty, people hungry, people who are sick, people who have no work so there is no shelter, no food in their bellies, no warmth in their physical, mental and spiritual being.Somehow the Burqa evolved, somehow the Niqab came about from perhaps MANSidea of keeping the woman under cloth but MAN cannot stop the oppressions, the wars, the atrocities that are happening right now. SHAME ON MAN
