The most flattering jeans for women(a guide look petite and beautiful)

Updated on October 9, 2011

Several pairs of jeans should be in every woman's closet. They are very functional and fashionable pieces that will match many different tops and occasions. However, there are so many different styles to choose from that you will have to pick the right jeans to flatter your own body. Here are a list of jeans that we commonly see in the stores.

Boot cut – These jeans are good for everyone. It is one of the most flattering jeans on a woman's body. It can be wore both everyday and for special occasions. Every woman should have at least one pair of boot cut in their closet.

Skinny jeans – These jeans are hard to wear for those that are on the larger side or with some curves. Basically, the skinny jeans look good on a lean woman with no or very little curves. However, there are some skinny jeans that are more forgiving. A dark wash with a wider opening on the bottom will be flattering for those that are on the larger side or with some curves. You can make the skinny jeans more flattering by wearing a top that covers the hip area. There is one thing to remember for the skinny jeans, wear heels is your leg is not that skinny or when you are under 5'6”. It will improve your overall look.

Flare jeans – These jeans have very big openings on the bottom. They are very flattering for a taller woman with full hips. The flare bottom will offset the bigger hips making your body look more slim. However, a short woman with very small hips should avoid this style all together. Even with heels, the bigger bottom tends to overwhelm a petite person.

Straight legs – Straight legs are flattering for a variety of body types. Every woman should have at least one pair of these jeans in their closet. These are very good for every day outfits. Furthermore, they are very flattering for petite girls because it creates a straight line to enhance leg length.

High waist – These were in fashion in the 70's and is now making a comeback on the fashion scene. However, keep in mind that these are hard to wear. Typically, only the long and lean can pull off this style. Furthermore, you will have to carefully pair these jeans with the appropriate tops to make it look fashionable. Not recommended for the average woman.

Low raise - The low cut jeans tend to be for teenagers and women in their 20's and early 30's. However, it tends to make the legs look shorter. So, those with short legs would need to either pair it with heels or go for something that has slightly higher waist. If you have no butt, don't wear ultra low raise, it will make you look like your rear is completely flat. Instead, go for something that sits at your natural waist.

Cropped jeans – Those jeans that are cropped are a casual alternative to a pair of full length pants. Jeans that are cropped at the knee will show off your calves. Don't wear these if you calves are enormously large compared to the rest of your body.
