Top 10 Largest Malls in the U.S.

We all love shopping and what is a better place than to go to the mall. I have been to quiet a few malls around the US. I have been in New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Myrtle Beach, Washington D.C. I was wondering what were some of the largest malls in the United States. I did a little research and came up with a list of the ten largest malls in the United States. Hope everyone enjoys the article, and give feedback if they have been to any of those malls, and give their personal review of the mall.

10. Woodfield Mall, Chciago Illions


This is the tenth largest mall in the United States. Located just 27 miles away from the Chciago Loop and about 15 miles away from Chicago O'hare airport, it makes it a hot destination for a lot of visitors. The mall attracts around 27 million visitors each year and growing each year. The mall was originally opened in 1979 and it had 59 stores and 1.9 million square foot shopping area. It increased to 189 stores by 1983 making it the largest mall in the United States then. Today the store has nearly 300 stores and around 2.2 million square foot of shopping area. The mall is the highest visited tourist destination in the Chicago metropolitan area.Some of the biggest stores in the mall are JCPenny, Lord and Taylor, Macy's, Nordstroms, and the largest Sears store in the United States.

This is the tenth largest shopping mall in the United States.

9. Roosevelt Field Mall, East Garden City, New York


At the number 9 spot is the Roosevelt Field Mall located in the state of New York. The mall was opened in 1956 and had only 343,000 square foot of shopping area. The current area that the mall covers is 2.3 million square foot of shopping area, making it the largest mall in New York State. It has over 270 stores and rising. Some of its biggest stores are Bloomington, Macy's, Nordstroms, JCPenny, and Dick Sporting Goods. There is some info linked that around 25+ stores are due to open at the Roosevelt Field Mall which will make it to go over 300 stores in the mall.

This is the ninth largest shopping mall in the United States.

8. The Galleria Mall, Houston, Texas


The Galleria Mall is the largest mall in Texas. It originally opened in 1971 and currently has over 375 shopping stores, and over 2.4 million square foot of shopping area. This is one of the very few malls in the world that has a build in Hotel. Shamrock Hotel has a leased space for its hotel designed for Business purposes. Recently two Westin Hotels were opened making it a total of three hotels inside the mall. A very interesting fact, in the main hall area of the mall there is an ice rink and a large skyview. The mall attracts annually around 35 million visitors, making it the busiest tourist destination in the Greater Houston area. Some of the largest retail stores in the mall are Macy's, Nordstroms, Saks Fifth Avenue, and there is around 50 different restaurants inside the mall.

7. Sawgrass Mall , Sunrise Florida


Located in greater Miami area, Sawgrass Mall in Sunrise Florida is the seventh largest mall in the United States. The stores was originally opened in 1990, and recently renovated in 2013. The total square footage is 2.4 million square foot of shopping area. The mall has over 300 shopping stores. A very interesting fact is that the mall is separated in four different areas.
The Fashion Avenue, The Oasis, and outdoor part of the mall, The Collannade Outlets filled with different restaurants and food courts. And the last section is the Outparcel, this is the area where you have different stores and plaza outside of the mall area. Some of the largest stores in the mall are Saks 5th avenue, TJMaxx, Sears, and Nordstrom Rack.

6. Destiny USA, Syracuse, New York


Destiny USA Mall is the sixth largest mall in the United States. Originally opened in 1990. It is a six story mall, with a total of 2.4 million square foot of shopping area. There is currently around 300 plus stores, and linked info is that in 2014, around 30 more stores will open doors in the mall. In June of 2013 the first IMAX theater opened doors making it one of the biggest movie theaters in the State of New York. The mall also has the world largest indoor waterpark, including a lazy river. Some of the largest stores in the mall are Macy's Best Buy, JCPenny, DSW, Sports Authority.

5. Del Almo Fashion Center, Torrance, California


The fifth largest mall in the United States is the Del Almo Fashion Center in California. It was originally opened in 1961 and currently has around 320 stores and growing. The total square footage of shopping area is 2.2 million square foots.The mall has the most famous International Food court, it also has multi-service restaurants, and fitness centers. One interesting fact is that the mall was used in the movie Bad Santa in 2003. Some of the largest retail stores are Macy's a total of three different stores, Burlington, JCPenny, Nordstrom, and Coach.

4. South Coast Plaza Mall, Costa Mesa, California


The fourth largest mall in the United States is located in Orange County, California. With 2.8 million square foot shopping area and over 250 retail stores, South Coast Plaza Mall takes the number four largest shopping mall in the United States.This is the largest mall on the west coast with an annual sales of $1.5 billion. In 2004 the mall was rated as the Ultimate Shopping Resort. The mall has an annual of 24 million visitors. Some of the largest stores in the mall are Macy's, Sears, Nordstroms, Bloomingdale, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

3. Aventura Mall , Aventura Florida


Aventura Mall is an upscale mall in the northern suburbs of Miami. It is the largest mall in Florida. The mall has over 2.7 million square foot of shopping area, and over 300 retail stores. The mall also has a food court that consist of over 20 different restaurants. The mall has three stories of retail space. Some of the largest retail stores are Nordstroms, Bloomingdale, JCPenny, Macy's, and Sears. This is the third largest malls in the United States.

2. Mall of America, Bloomington, Minnesota


For many years Mall of America was the largest mall in the United States, but now it is the second largest mall. The mall was originally opened in 1992. It has a total square footage of 2.8 million square foot. It consist the most store in any mall in America with 520 plus stores. It has an annual visitor count of over 40 million. The mall has seven floors of shopping area. The mall has a total of 4.8 million square foot, which can fit seven Yankee Stadiums. The mall has an interior Theme Park, with Roller Coasters, and is the largest indoor theme park in the United States. Some of the largest retail stores are Macy's, Nordstroms, Sears, Forever 21, Best Buy, and Marshalls. This is the second largest mall in the United States.

1. King of Prussia Mall, Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania


King of Prussia is the largest shopping mall in the United States, when it comes to shopping space. The mall has 2.9 million square foot of retail space and over 400 plus stores. The mall opened in 1963 and was recently renovated making it the largest mall in the US.There is three different food courts, that include all kinds of different fine dining and variety of different restaurants. The mall has a total of three floors. There is some info leaked about an expansion of the mall in 2014, that will make an additional 2 million square foot of shopping space, which will put it well over 5 million square foot of shopping space. Some of the largest retail stores are Macy's, JCPenny, Sears, Nordstroms, Lord and Taylor.

      This list should also be called: The Ten American Malls to Visit Before You Die. Lucky me I go to Number 9 regularly. But I would love to see the others.

      Mall of America is on my list of places to go someday, but the rest look pretty cool too! Nice hub!
