Make Up For Women Of Color
It's Difficult to Find the Right Makeup for Women of Color
Choosing the right shade of powder and foundation for your skin tone is very important. This is particularly, difficult for women of color and especially African American Women because few products offer the blends necessary to capture the depth of African American rich and varied skin tones. Most products on the market today, either are too light or too deep and sometimes, we are presented with a one size fit all solution.
For example, many well known and popular brands offer very few choices or one choice of deep or dark powders and foundations. African American skin hues run the gamut of light skinned with olive and yellow undertones; medium with red and blue undertones and dark with red and grey undertones...all beautiful. This makes it critical for African American women to carefully select the right products for their skin tones.
A 2009 Beauty Report in Essence Magazine
In 2009, Essence Magazine reported that, "African-American women spend $7.5 billion annually on beauty products, but shell out 80 percent more money on cosmetics and twice as much on skin care products than the general market, according to the research. That difference comes as African-American women sample many more products to find the ones that are most effective on their skin." But we have still haven't gotten it right and there's more work to be done in the Beauty Industry for African American women.
