5 Hottest Makeup Trends for Spring-Summer 2014

Updated on February 18, 2014

Every season, a host of distinguished designers use their intuition, creativity and artistic flair to dress the ramp with fashions that bring out the feel and vibe of the season. They dazzle onlookers with their creative genius and color the season with their style. What would we fashionistas do without their trends to guide and inspire us?

Here are a couple of makeup trends that were noticed on ramps around the world this Spring/Summer 2014. Stay fashion forward by incorporating these hot summer makeup tips in your look!

1. Eyeliner Art:

When it comes to applying eyeliner, fine lines and the understated look are old school. This season, eyeliner has gone graphic. Thick bold lines, angular shapes, straight flicks and lines extending outside the corners of the eye are all in. To get this look, it is important to have a smudge-free and long-lasting, jet black eyeliner. Experiment with gel based ones and liquid liners. My favourite is Maybelline’s Colossal Kajal. I love its deep color and staying power. White liners and blue liners too were visible on the ramps, a thick line highlighting the upper and lower lash lines.

2. Shocking Matte Lip Shades:

Bright, bold lip colors like orange, red and neons are making waves this season. Leave your lip glosses at home as matte lipsticks are the rage this summer. Bright lipsticks have a fresh summery feel and are great for adding a pop of color to your face. Bright orange was a particular favourite on the ramps. Make this look work by dressing up in subtle, light shades and keeping your face makeup to a minimum.

3. Shades of purple / blue eye shadow

Shades that brighten up your face are in. Lilac, lavender, purple, blue and pastel hues seem to rule the ramp this summer. A wash of shadow in these hues has replaced the ‘smoky eyes’ look. To get this look, opt for peaches and other pastel shades. Go easy on the amount of eye shadow you’re applying. A light, blurred effect is preferred over the dark, dramatic look.

4. The Golden/Bronze Look:

What is summer without a golden-brown, tropical tan? The tanned look has made its way to the ramps this summer and has created an inspiring makeup trend. Give your face a gorgeous sun-kissed look by applying bronzer to your cheekbones. You can also opt for an apricot peach blush. Lightly brush some powder onto your forehead as well. To complete the look, apply a bit of bronze or golden eye shadow and your face will radiate a beautiful golden-brown glow.

5. The Raw, Natural Look

The makeup trend that has taken the ramp by storm this Spring/Summer 2014 is the raw, ‘barefaced beauty’ look. This little or almost no makeup look has created quite a stir and has made an appearance in many fashion shows. To get the flawless, well-conditioned natural look, make use of concealers, lip balms, eye creams and brow gels. Stay away from dark eye shadows and bright blushes. Remember, less is more.

@DDE - Thank you for your encouraging compliment. :) It means a lot.

@Jasmeet: Thanks! yup, neon matt lip shades are amazing. It's a very vibrant and fresh trend, and best part is that it looks as good on a pair of jeans and T-shirt as it does on a pretty cocktail dress!

Hi Flourish! True that. Amy Winehouse had a personality that really spiced up the cat eyes look. Her life and style really drew people in!

I enjoy the eye liners. Ever since I saw Amy Winehart bring back cat eyes, I've enjoyed what eye liner can do.

Hi Dolores! True that. Good eye makeup does add glamour to your look and that's just what one needs for a night about town! As they say, it's all in the eyes. :)

Whooo some eyes! I prefer the natural look but those lush colors and the creative eye liner would be lovely for a night on the town or for a special event.
