Matte Lipstick: Are you IN or OUT?

Matte Lipstick Trend

It's one of the hottest makeup trends right now. The fashion goddesses and runway rebels alike are opting for bold, matte lipsticks. But for us everyday fashion and makeup lovers, the matte lip may be a bit intimidating or downright scary <insert dreadful female scream from horror movies>. We think of those dry (and crusty) lips that our mom's friends had in the 80s. Ewww..so unattractive. Fortunately, they have evolved. The matte lipsticks available at our local drugstores and department stores are a new breed. This ain't yo mama's lipstick lol. Brands like NYX, LancĂ´me, and NARS are developing formulas that are more moisturizing, silkier and forgiving.

It's okay to get fruity

When it comes to matte lipstick, go fruity. you can't go wrong with berries, plums and cherries. These shades tend to look good on most skin tones. Stay clear of colors that are too dull. These can totally wash you out or worst... make you look older. Besides were not going for boooooring <yawn>. We're going for the wow factor! Something that will set our face off. We want all eyes on the pout.

Throw some bling in the mix

It's always important to keep a balance so too much matte would be going overboard. Gotta mix things up to keep the look exciting and fresh. Take things up a notch by adding a bit of shimmer in the mix. Inner eye ducts, cheekbones, and brow bones are great places to add some shimmer. Not too much, though. Nothing should compete with the main attraction - your lips.

No supporting actresses please

Remember, your lips are the main attraction when wearing matte lipsticks. Keep everything else on your face neutral. The only exception would be your eyes. Dramatic eyeliner and falsies can compliment this look very well if you're going for a glamorous or even retro look.

And, that's it! Don't be afraid to experiment with bold, matte lipsticks. They are quick and easy ways to add dimension to our existing makeup routine. Besides, it's perfect for date night.
