Mens Leggings

Updated on April 8, 2011

The most notable feature of mens leggings is that they reveal your physique. This makes them awesome to look at (for us girls at least) if you have a nice body shape. I also feel they enhance the shape of your legs. Every man should have a pair of leggings to wear around the house or just to look good. You’d be surprised how many women love it. It’s no coincidence that most comic heroes and wrestlers have leggings or something similar.

Leggings are also one of the most practical types of clothing for men. They can be used as normal trousers or worn underneath trousers or other garments. The main characteristic of mens leggings is that they’re tight fitting and therefore have no folds or frills hanging loosely. This is what makes them so practical, which is why they’re often worn as part of functional clothing like cyclists leggings or running leggings.

So why don’t you check out some of the online shops for mens leggings.

Why Mens Leggings are Great to Wear

If you’ve never worn anything like tights or leggings then you must try it and see for yourself how it feels. Mens leggings will make you feel more athletic and slimmer just by wearing them. Also, you’ll feel more active and willing to use your body physically and this will give you an incentive to exercise and keep fit. Try on a pair of leggings and you'll see what I mean.

You can buy mens leggings in virtually any color and with a huge selection of different materials. Usually leggings need to be elastic so they’re nearly always made with lycra but you can also get cotton only leggings or even denim leggings. I recommend the stretchy ones for mens leggings. You never know how far they’ll have to stretch in six months time^^.

About Wearing Mens Leggings

There are some things you should know about wearing mens leggings. Firstly, they don’t have pockets (never seen any that do). Pockets wouldn’t look good anyway on tight fitting trousers but it can make life a little harder sometimes.

Another thing to note is that you can’t just wear any kind of pants under your leggings because most mens underwear would create a panty line. In other words, everyone will see your pants through the leggings which is not good at all. So you have to go for subtle pants or even women’s panties to avoid panty lines.

Shoes can also be a problem because if you have large feet and accordingly big shoes, then wearing mens leggings will accentuate the size of your feet and make them look even bigger. In this case you have to find small shoes that don’t have a huge hiking style profile.

Leggings are not tights by the way. The main difference is that tights are essentially an undergarment while leggings can be worn by themselves instead of trousers. Mens leggings in particular are also thicker and heavier than tights and you usually can’t see through them. However, the great thing is that mens leggings are still very good for wearing underneath other clothes. Because they’re so skin tight it’s easy to slip other trousers over them which really helps keep you warm in the cold season.

You might also consider wearing one of those fashionable mens skirts over your leggings. This usually works really well, especially if the skirt is only about knee length and you don’t want to expose your legs. For more about wearing skirts for men, check my article titled Mens Skirts.

I hope I’ve encouraged you to got and buy yourself a pair of leggings. Usually they come in sizes classified by the typical Small, Medium, Large sizes. And don’t worry if you’re a little off on the size because the stretchiness of mens leggings gives you some leeway. The best place to look for mens leggings is at online shops. That way you can get a great idea of what’s out there and what kind of styles you like. Also the online prices are probably lower and the variety of leggings is also likely to be much greater than in a department store.

I realize this is an old post but I would like to weigh in. I do wear leggings and find the biggest problem is what shoes to wear and no pockets. I have started to wear womens ankle boots with them. They are not as obvious as pumps but I am sure most women catch it. I also try to wear a jacket for the pockets since I am too embarrassed to carry a purse. Finally, I always wear a thong panty to avoid panty lines.

      Hi Sam,

So you'd like to know how they feel? Well there's really only one way to find out ;)

And I don't think your dad needs to have any for you to do that. Which kind? I suggest you try sheer pantyhose.

      UnJeans Leggings

Leggings for men is not a new trend - one that's been around for years. As someone who sells leggings to men and women around the globe at UnJeansdotcom - I know people are wearing and enjoying them.

It's time to get over the body image constraints and go for the comfort. Just wear them. Leggings are perfect casual wear for women AND men. Having worn leggings for years, I'm aware of people's comments both negative and very positive. After all, it’s not the leggings on the man but the man in the leggings. Everyone looks good in leggings and some people look great!

If more people, women and men, wear leggings, then it will just be another apparel choice. At one time denim jeans were worn only by miners digging for gold. Now they are everywhere and nobody asks whether you've struck gold.

So never say never - when you do decide to wear leggings, choose a well made pair - not with cotton fibers that bag out over time but a high tech fiber that retains its shape.

No pockets on leggings? - no problem - wear a belt pack. When wearing leggings I'm actually more comfortable when my wallet isn't sticking in my butt (like it does when I'm wearing baggies) Instead it's comfortably at my waist with my keys, cell phone, etc. All your stuff is right with you and more comfortable. Go for the comfort and support of a great pair of leggings and enjoy.

For underwear, compression shorts work well. I use cheap Starter compression shorts for underwear, and Under Armour leggings on top. Very comfortable and it keeps everything in place.

I have been wearing leggins for a number of years. I like how they feel and I also like to look good. I would normarly wear a longer top. I also have unjeans which are heaver than leggins and the makers suggest you wear no underwear . Whatever you feel comfortable in. Jerry

For the last 2 years I have been wearing leggings in public on a regular basis. I have only had one comment from an older lady that asked why every time she sees me I am wearing tights. I told her it is because I walk every morning and her response was oh good for you.

Leggings rock. Women are freaked by the bulge up front for some reason.

Lycra is so comfy, easy to move in fabric and doesn't try to strangle the tackle like trousers and jeans do.

I also believe we have the same rights to be comfy and to show off our legs and bum just like women.

Just bought some leggings at target and wear panties underneath. Great combo for my nightly workout. Moves with you and comfy besides. Beats trying to workout in blue jeans. Cheaper at target than online.

Thanks for the writeup. Leggings or anything tights related has often been taboo for men for a long time. But this article goes to show the practicality and style behind men's leggings.

I have been wearing compression leggings during and after I workout at the gym for months now. I find they are the most comfortable to wear and give me the freedom of movement I require for the activities I partake in.

They also have excellent characteristics for muscle recovery which is a huge benefit for me after a hard workout.

For the guys out there who are either apprehensive, afraid or scared of trying leggings made for men for athletic activities, don't be. Put aside the 'macho' appearance and feel the benefits. You don't know what you are missing out on.

Lucy, I really like the idea of wearing leggings with panties underneath. Tight and sexy!! I can understand the problem with the shoes; howabout sandals? I am going shopping for a pair of leggings, but first I must put on my favorite panties.
