Have you noticed the photos of celebrities wearing sleek, mirror-like metallic nails? These are Minx nails and they are all the rage. Minx has received a lot of positive publicity in music videos, magazines, television, the red carpet and the internet. Several celebrities have been seen sporting their Minx nails, including Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, and many others. Tiny (formerly a member of the singing girl group Xscape) and Toya, (ex-wife of Rapper, Lil’ Wayne) of BET’s Tiny and Toya show, made mention of this trend on a few episodes of the show this past season. The Minx nails were also mentioned during an episode of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta .

Minx nails are the innovative brainchild of California based company, Minx, Inc. Minx nails are a solid film, with elaborate designs on one side and an adhesive backing on the other side. The nails are cleaned to remove any residue and a basic manicure is done to smooth out the nail bed. They are applied to the nail bed by a professional manicurist using heat activation. The Minx adhesive is heat activated using a hair dryer or a lamp. After heating, the film is easily molded to conform to the shape of your nail.

How to Apply Minx Nails

This process does not require the use of nail polish, basecoats, topcoats, or tips. There are no noxious fumes to inhale or exposure to strong chemicals. Minx nails are quick and easy to apply with no mess left behind. There is also the added advantage that there is no drying time, and which eliminates worries about smudging and chipping.

Minx nails usually last anywhere from about 1 to 2 weeks, although some wear is to be expected with time. They are waterproof and can also be removed using heat by either the client or a professional. There are many styles and designs of Minx nails to choose ranging from plain solid colors to metallic or intricate images and patterns.

Minx nails boast that their products are customizable and can be designed with personalized graphics, and favorite photos in mind. Some people have requested photo quality images of Santa Claus and President Obama designs. The Minx nail may also be applied to the toe nails. I have heard that the minx pedicures usually last longer than Minx manicure nails (about 1 month). Minx nails are far from the Lee Press On variety: They are considered high end and excellent quality. The high quality and customization comes at a price; A set of Minx nails will set you back about $40 and up, depending on what you want (custom designs cost much more).
