Monthly Subscription Boxes

Updated on December 30, 2017

Subscription boxes

We have been bombarded in the past years with this concept about subscribing to receive a box with content that will pay for it self. Some can be about food, clothes, toys and even for animals, like BarkBox. I have enjoyed a couple of these and I can say that I am a fan. That said, I did not go crazy subscribing to each and every one I saw as I had to make sure that I earned back what I was paying for.

I started with Birchbox. It promised me that the content will pay back my investment of $12.00 a month. Since I subscribed yearly I manage to shave the cost to $10.00 a month. I can tell you that I was never disappointed with what I received for almost 2 years I was part of it. I received regularly items that I used. They ask you questions to identify what type of content matches your style.

At least monthly I received items that I confirmed where valued above $10.00. For example, I received a lot a brand of socks called Bombas. They sent me a variety that could be used for sports, casual or dressed up events. After I stopped the Birchbox subscription I look to buy these socks as they are very comfortable. I was surprised to see that a pair of their socks, which i have like 10 of them, averaged $12.00. I also received nice long sleeve shirts that I could wear casually on a Saturday summer night as they are very light fabric, that could cost between $20.00 and $40.00. Some I could even by at a huge discount by itself. So I would definitely recommend it for men.

Since I have kids, one that has pleasantly surprised me is the Baby Gap box. I receive it quarterly and I pay $70.00. The content I receive has an invoice showing the original price of the items and how much I saved. Average is around 45% to 50%. My last box had 7 items so the average cost was $10.00. When I saw the original cost I was saving between $5 to $8 per item. The best part of the box is that it provides how you can combine the clothes for your kid. They will be providing clothes for older boys as they currently go as high as 2T.

Bottom line, do not subscribe blindly, make sure you are able to cancel before you commit to a yearly subscription without losing any money. Always search in Pinterest the types of boxes available as in some cases they will provide a discount when you sign up to test the box. I truly have saved a lot of money with my subscriptions.
