Top 5 most done cosplays at conventions
How did you come up with these?
I have attended over 20+ conventions now and every one offers very unique and new cosplay. There are some outfits that everyone loves to wear and show their own rendition of. These are just some of the ones that I have seen at nearly every event sometimes with dozens of people portraying the same character. Your experience might be different, mine is over years of attending events in many parts of the US. So with that said lets get started.
Harley Quinn in my experience is the most done cosplay. Every comic event I attend there are always a dozen Harley’s in attendance. She is a very lively, jovial, likeable character that has many different renditions portrayed through movies, video games, and comics. There are also many who choose to create their own rendition being something super complex and time consuming to create, or something very casual that still clearly portrays Harley Quinn’s craziness.
Deadpool is another cosplay favorite. Many who attend events as Deadpool like to portray his crazy side as well. With a full bodysuit and mask many who do not wish to show their identity are drawn to this character. The popularity of the Ryan Reynolds recent film has also sparked more interest (although he was very popular at conventions before the film). Deadpool also very popular for genderbend renditions.
Notice the trend in crazy characters? The Joker fits right in with the other two previously mentioned. The Joker doesn’t have the numbers as the higher two but he is very popular and noticeable at every event I have attended. He has been portrayed in a variety of ways that many people find their own likeness too (Animated series, Arkham games, Tim Burton Batman, The Dark Knight, and the comics).
Wonder Woman has seen a huge spike in popularity after her portrayal in Batman vs Superman and also the more recent standalone film. I have seen renditions of her from years earlier from the comics as well as the earlier TV show. It is not just the traditional suit as I have seen various outfits over the years. It's not just from the recent success of Gal Gadot films. Wonder Woman cosplay has been around much longer than the films.
Rey is also similar to Wonder Woman having found a recent spark of popularity. She is very heavily portrayed by con attendees. It is actually hard to distinguish which Rey’s I have taken photos of because as of current she only has one outfit from the films (I have seen a small amount try to do her outfit at the very end of Force Awakens when she meets Luke). There are also some now doing Dark Side Rey as well as outfits seen from the newer film trailer. Hopefully she wears a variety of different outfits from The Last Jedi so we can see some more awesome cosplay.
There are some others characters that I see portrayed at nearly every event, just not with the numbers as the above mentioned characters. I thought I would include a few honorable mentions.
