Mothers Day Jewellery - Sparkling Swarovski Necklaces
Are you looking for a fabulous Mothers Day present for your mother?
As a mother myself, I am often amused at children’s attempts to give their mother a pleasing Mothers Day gift. Anything from domestic appliances to practical consumer goods are not all that “special” to mothers - after all, they’re surrounded by the stuff every day.
The gift of jewellery has always been a good gift for a woman whom you want to spoil. But what sort of jewelry do women want? Some like chunky gemstones, some like fine chains and some go for the most expensive thing in the shop every time. Things that women universally like about jewelry are its appearance (does it have beautiful colours?), its sparkle (women are like magpies in that respect) and its flexibility (the ability to wear it with any outfit and have it look great).
To find jewelry for a woman when you don’t know what sort of jewelry she likes means finding jewelry with the beauty, sparkle and flexibility to complement her. Jewelry like this would also be extra appreciated if it looks like it costs money (even though it doesn’t necessarily have to) and also if it is something different that she doesn’t already own. Women don’t mind being presented with new types of jewelry – they just want the right types of jewelery.

My little tale about Swarovski crystals…
I am a jewelry and beading enthusiast, as well as a gemstone lapidarian (a rock cutter and polisher). One day, as I was browsing in the beading shop, I saw some amazingly sparkly crystals for sale in a cabinet. They were really something else – they produced amazing rainbows in the sunlight and looked exquisite against my skin. I bought some crystals of the stuff to make suncatchers and they were 1000% better than quartz crystals I’d used in the past. The beading shop lady told me they were Swarovski crystals and I thought they were priced pretty affordably (about half the price of the quartz crystals). Anyway, to cut a long story short – I was entranced by these Swarovski crystals and have ditched quartz in favour of them for use in jewelry, beading and general gemstone activity for the last ten years now.
General info about Swarovski
Swarovski is a brand of manufactured crystal that looks better than polished and faceted quartz. It looks as good as its web photos as it does in real life and is quite a special stone that appeals to women because it’s so attractive and sparkles beautifully in sunlight. Swarovski crystal generally glints white flashes in the sun and if it is coated in AB (a kind of rainbow painted coating) it produces intense rainbows in the sunlight (AB is often used in suncatchers and in some Swarovski pendants and earrings).
Swarovski silver crystal is made by combining different minerals including quartz and lead oxide. It is manufactured using a full lead crystal with more than 30% lead oxide, which is known to produce a more brilliant colour than naturally occurring gemstone crystals.
Swarovski was invented in 1892 by Daniel Swarovski of Bohemia (yes, there is such a place) and started up a massive worldwide company with revolutionary production techniques and machining for cutting crystal stones. Ever seen those quality-looking crystals in chandeliers that sparkle plenty? They were Swarovski crystals made by the Swarovski company.

Swarovski: A Mothers Day gift she’ll want
Buy your mother something really special this Mother’s Day – something that she will treasure and which will complement her own beauty for many years to come. Swarovski crystal pendants, Swarovski earrings and other Swarovski jewelry will never sit in a drawer by itself looking neglected. Your mother will be too busy garnering compliments from everyone to take it off!
An Alternative Gift Idea

Where to buy Swarovski
The really good news about Swarovski crystals is that they are very, very affordable and anyone can buy their mum a Swarovski necklace without having to take out a bank loan. For example, I had a peek on Ebay this afternoon and saw a great Swarovski heart pendant I’d love to buy for myself for the reasonable price of AU$3.99. Why is it so cheap? Well, it’s manmade and there’s a fair bit of it around, but not everyone knows about it and it has a good name in the jewelry world but is not a naturally occurring stone. I do suggest checking out the sizes of the pendants though – bigger ones cost AU$30 and are worth every dollar in sparkle!
So – try to remember if your mother wears large or small necklace pendants normally and buy a Swarovski crystal pendant in the appropriate size for her on Ebay. Then sit back and celebrate with a drink – your Mothers Day dilemma is solved! (Next year you can buy her the matching Swarovski earrings).
