Although it is not a mainstream tattoo, the mushroom tattoo can spark the interest of many. Most of us know that the mushroom has many uses, but few know just how symbolic the mushroom is. The mushroom has been a symbolic plant to a variety of cultures and civilizations through history, none more then China. The Chinese believed that the mushroom could promote spiritual healing. They believed that the mushroom was very beneficial to the body. In China, the mushroom is also a symbol of a long life, which is linked back to their beliefs that the mushroom is good for the body. The Chinese also believed that the mushroom symbolized transformation, rebirth, and happiness. They believed that the mushroom only grows in peaceful times.

Several different cultures believed that the mushroom is a symbol of the human soul. Elsewhere, it is believed that the mushroom represents enlightenment.
