My Natural Hair Challenge

Updated on July 04, 2009

I Invite You All

Join me in my natual hair challenge. No matter your hair type, the truth is many of us rarely wear our hair all out natural! So far i have been wearing my hair natural and going strong for 2 months.

I got my hair cut super short back in September (Never had it any shorter than my shoulders until then). That was the first time I had a relaxer in 12 years, and a month later I got a relaxer touch up. Then it began to fall out (I never could get relaxers) so I decided to let it grow back out natual again. The only reason I got it cut and straightened was to try a short style that would be hard to manage naturally. But I ended up having to manage it natural anyway!

As I started letting my short hair grow back naturally, I still continued to press(hot comb) it, flat iron it, blow dry it, gel it, spritz it, ponytail it, etc. I know that is just as bad, especially since I was doing all of that daily.

What I Am Doing

  • Applying no heat whatsoever
  • Using all natural products (separate hub on this)
  • Using no rubber bands (only headbands, ribbons, and bobby pins with the protective tips on the end
  • Trimming my ends with hair scissors every 6 weeks

Im also trying to wear it in protective styles but it is not one of my "rules."  Like I said it has been two months now and I have already noticed stronger, healthier hair. I have less hair coming out in the comb now than I ever have. The hardest part was transitioning from using everything to nothing and getting used to usinng nothing, but after the first few weeks, I was fine. But beleive me, I still can have bad hair days! This whole natural thing is not so bad though.

I doubt you have to trim every six weeks
