My Quest For The Perfect Pedicure

Updated on April 14, 2011

Okay, I can admit it I am addicted to pedicures. My addiction started a few years ago when I received a gift certificate to a spa. At first I was going to get a massage but decided to try a pedicure instead. Huge mistake! I was completely hooked. The spa I went to was very expensive so I knew I would not be frequenting that location. I knew I would want a pedicure on the regular but at a much more reasonable price. Please! Yes I love the expensive spa treatments but really who can afford that luxury on a monthly basis. I have a few guilty pleasures not all of which I can share. I mean a girl has to have a few secrets. Right? For me a pedicure is on the top of the list. I try to get them often which for me is usually every other month. However, I would prefer monthly if possible. I am constantly looking for the perfect pedicure. I am kinda picky when it comes to what I like to have done during the pedicure.

So after my first pedicure I went on a mission to find the perfect pedicure; all the amenities I had at the spa and at an affordable price. I would try different locations but none were quite right. Either the prices were too high or they didn’t do enough during the pedicure. Some places I totally avoided because they were too dark or dirty or just seemed down right shady to me. My search would not be easy at all. I could tell that from the beginning. I really didn’t feel like I was asking too much in my search so I kept going on.

During my search I developed a must have criteria for the ultimate pedicure, there are just some things that I have to have done during a pedicure (yes I understand that I am totally spoiled but oh well). It is all about all the procedures and pampering that is involved in the pedicure. For me the top of the list is…

SOAK – For me it is the initial feeling of dipping my feet in to the hot bath that makes or breaks the pedicure. The water has to be at the right temperature; for me the hotter the better. Actually just as long as the water is warm it’s all good. Trust me a few of the places I went to the water was actually cold!

MASSAGE CHAIR – I have to go to a place that has a massage chair or should I say a working massage chair. Yes there were several places that either had nice comfy chairs that weren’t massage chairs or they had massage chairs that didn’t work. I want to be totally relaxed and being in a vibrating chair is the ultimate. Having my back and neck massaged during a pedicure just puts me in the right mood; relaxed.

FOOT MASSAGE – The foot and leg massage has to be just right too. The place I go to actually includes the foot and leg massage in the price of the pedicure which is a huge plus. Some places pound on the legs which to me is just way to painful and some places don’t give foot massages. The foot massage for me is essential because it helps me to relax and is a special treat.

PARAFFIN WAX – I really enjoy how my feet feel after the Paraffin Wax treatment. Dipping each foot in the wax feels really good, especially when the wax is nice and hot. Afterwards my skin feels very soft. Some places do not have Paraffin treatments as an option or do not apply the wax correctly.

POLISH – For me I usually like the French pedicure. Sometimes I change up the color of the tip especially in Spring when I would rather have the tip be orange, yellow or something like that but very rarely will I choose a solid color for the whole toe nail. For me it just doesn’t look right. I know some people have negative opinions about French manis and pedis but I am a total fan no matter what others may think. Hey they are my toes and I like what I like.

Luckily for me I finally found a place that offers all of the above. The added bonuses are that they are very affordable and the employees are super professional and nice. Because I am a regular I receive special perks and discounts that I absolutely love. It was a long process but I finally found the perfect pedicure it was truly worth the effort.

Now all this talk about pedicures is making me want to go get pampered. I have said all I need to say and now it’s time for me to walk the walk. I am off to get spoiled, off to get my much needed pedicure!
