Nine West Boots and Booties Review: Leather, Suede, Faux Fur/Shearling, Synthetic, Fabric; Heel, Flat, OTK, Other

Updated on January 13, 2015

Nine West Boots

Nine West boot collection constitutes a mega-department of seasonal footwear suitable for casual, corporate, and dressy wear. The majority of the selection fits for autumn and winter weather conditions, such long, nearly hermetic models as over-the-knee and rubber-made boots protecting the feet from rain and snow, and shearling lined, suede booties keeping the soles extra-warm.

All Nine West design characteristics find expression in this section – strong lines, intersection and ninety degree angles, use of differently shaped heels – but not only: the boots stand out for clever deployment of various buckles, straps, laces, as well as accents in the form of buttons and studs. In other words, the eclectic, multi-faceted concept of the brand continues to guide the designers and creative directors.

Design

Depending on architecture, one pair of shoes can demonstrate radical dissimilarities from another. Flat, slouched, suede lined mid-calf boots appear drastically different (stress on comfort, ease of slip-on wearing procedure) from the high-heel, almost stiletto strapped dressy booties with a flirtatious laced detail on the side and a gathered upper.

Materials

Nine West employ a broad range of materials, not limiting themselves to nature-derived leather or suede – synthetically made fabrics, leather-cloths, as well as rubber, metallic details, faux fur and faux shearling – all populate the manufacture inventory.

Tall Boots

The majority of tall boots present a solid, no-frills design that tends to cut-down on ornamentation: it's known that too much embellishment on the shaft can render the shoe distracting or excessively fancy. Some decoration, however, only adds character; the brand introduces belt-like straps&buckles, laces that run the entire length of the shaft, and subtle studs and shearling enhancements. Resulting footwear reveal classic riding, engineer, boat, or high-fashion layout, depending on the collection.

Colors include black, burgundy, dark and light gray, dark and light brown, taupe, ink blue, dark green (glossy or matte finishes further vary the palette by reflecting or absorbing light). Trinity, Dimaris, Stepinout, Visvayu, Hobbs, Goodtaste, Kelly, Autry, and other collections.

Booties

Booties section offers some of the brand's most elegant and dressiest shoes: slouched, gathered, layered leather and fabric configuration suddenly receive an inherently decorative, aesthetically conscious appeal – what was functional in tall boots, becomes beautiful in shorter ones.

Some strapped designs already overlap with sandals, anticipating mid-season spring, and summer footwear. Includes classic cold weather shearling and rubber sole variations. Priska, Bayles, Shiona, Hotfuzz, Rhona, Rafaela, Eleanore, Ultra, and other collections.
