How to Get Perfect Summer Legs

As the winter months end and summer months are just around the corner shorts, skirts, and bikinis are starting to come out. What does that mean? It means that its time to show off some legs but because winter just ended most of us do not have beach ready legs since we might not shaven for a few months since there was so need to or even exercised as the winters can be cold and lazy! Since we all don’t have Victoria's Secret runway model legs, there are however a few things that can be done to achieve beautiful summer ready legs which includes exfoliating, tan, shape up, moisturize, shaving, and taking some vitamin C.


Exfoliating is important as it gets rid of all the dry and dead skin cells, but of course do not exfoliate your skin too often as this is cause irritation. There are many products on the market that you can buy to exfoliate your legs. Also when you go get a pedicure you can get your legs exfoliated at the same time although they only exfoliate up to your knees and you might want your thighs done as well. If you do not wish to spend the money on products or not ready to get a pedicure just yet, you can also make a home scrub. Here is a recipe for a home scrub that is just amazing.

Home Leg Exfoliating Scrub:

½ Cup of Olive Oil (can be extra virgin olive oil) – olive oil is great at moisturizing your skin

3 tablespoon of citrus juice (like lime juice)

1 ¼ Cup of Sugar (yes just regular white sugar)

Mix all the ingredients together and rub it on your legs (mixture can be runny so do it in your bathtub or over some towels laid out on the floor.) Rub your legs with this mixture for at least 5 minutes and then go rinse off the mixture. Moisturize! Now feel your legs and they should be silky smooth.


Exfoliating gets rid of all the dead and dry skin, after you exfoliate make sure you rehydrate your skin and keep the smooth and fresh layer of skin baby soft by moisturizing. There are many different types of moisturizers but make sure the one you use is right for you. Some things to consider in a moisturizers are one with a natural tinting ingredient, firming ingredient for cellulite, scent free, and oil free. Even if you are not going to exfoliate it is important to keep your legs moisturized all through the year.


Having tanned legs will help them appear more toned and you cannot see as much imperfection. Tanning in the sun can be hard on your skin in general so if you do want to tan in the sun or at a tanning salon please use precautions as it does damage and age your skin. An alternative to tanning under the sun or in the salon is by using self-tanners or airbrush tanners (spray tans.) There are plenty of different types of tanners on the market that ranges from high end to drug store brands but if you don’t have the time to build a tan St. Tropez and Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs are two products that is basically make-up for your legs. They are temporarily used and can be washed off at the end of the night, they claim to leave no streaks and are easy to use. One more method to having tanned legs is with a home remedy using tea bags.

Home Tea Bag Tan

Take ten Black Tea tea bags (does not matter what brand the tea bags are as long its black tea)

Steep in about 2 cups of water for 15 minutes (can be adjusted if you want a darker shade or lighter shade, also if you use tea with orange in the tea it will give you a warmer glow.)

Let the tea cool and transfer the liquid into a spray bottle and put in the fridge

Spray as needed to get a tan!

Hair Removal

Legs will not be complete with out hair removal especially in Western culture where hairless legs are considered sexy. There are many different methods to hair removal, which includes shaving, waxing, epilating and laser. The choice is up to you which one you want to do. Shaving is cheap and can be done at home while waxing lasts longer and can be done at home or by a professional. Epilation is also done at home but you need to buy an epilator which ranges from $50 to $130. Laser is the most expensive option as it takes more then one session but it does last the longest.


Although most people do not like this part, exercise plays a factor of having beautiful legs. Running and walking is one of the best leg workouts to having lean and sexy legs but there are home workouts that can be done while you’re watching TV during the cold winter months to prep for the summer time. All these exercise will also help prevent cellulite from building up by keeping the skin nice and firm.

Exercise For Toned and Sexy Legs and Butts:

Lunges – Stand with legs slight apart, move one leg forward, lower back knee as close to floor as possible, (note: your right knee should not pass your foot/toes), pause for 3 seconds and return to starting position and do alternate leg. This will help with glutes and back of thigh, but if you do not go enough then it will target front of thighs.

Wide Squats – Stand with legs shoulder width apart and toes pointed straight, lower yourself with your back straight and as if you are sitting on a chair (keep your head up and looking forward so you do not lean over too much), lower slowly until your thighs are parallel to the floor, hold for 1 seconds, return to starting position. This will target your glutes, hamstrings, and quads.

Outer Leg Lights – Lie on one side with head, shoulder and hips aligned, keep your legs straight and foot flex, slowly raise the top leg and then slowly lower it back down and return to starting position and do opposite side (note: make sure everything stays straight.) This will target the side of your thigh as well as your hip.

Inner Thigh Lifts - Lie on one side with head, shoulder and hips aligned, have top leg crossed over to the front (bending at the knee) of the bottom leg, and lift your bottom leg slowly up and back down and repeat for other side. This will target your glutes and inner thigh.

Calf Raises - Stand shoulder width apart with back straight and toes pointed forward, slowly raise heels off the ground, hold for three seconds, and slowly lowering back down. This will target your calves.

Water and Vitamin C

Drinking plenty of water is good for you in so many ways and one of them is helping your legs look beautiful. Drinking plenty of fluid will help keep your skin looks hydrated and youthful.

Along with water taking Vitamin C is also very important for your health overall. Vitamin C helps improve blood flow and circulation which helps prevent varicose veins from showing up on your legs (as well as the rest of your body.)

      Well it's like any part of your body, it does take work to look a certain way. And plus! Drinking water, vitamin C, exercise and moisturizing is good for you in general anyways =]
